Adam Afifi

Adam Afifi has been playing basketball with West Valley College Vikings since their 2019-20 season and is considered a highly valuable player.

He has earned himself an impeccable reputation among coaches, fans and players alike; as evidenced by numerous awards and honors.

Early Life and Education

Adam Afifi hails from San Jose, California and attended West Valley College nearby. While at West Valley he helped the Vikings win 28-4 record, conference championship, and CCAAA State Championship runner-up finish as sophomores; Afifi averaged 17.2 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.5 blocks during his time there and was named Coast South Conference Player of the Year and first-team all-state selection 2022. In 2017 Afifi also helped Mater Dei Prep Middletown NJ claim conference title before graduating 2018 before attending Mater Dei Prep.

Afifi is a transfer who joined WSU from West Valley Community College after having competed there as a junior college student.

Professional Career

Afifi participated in six games during his freshman season, making one start. He averaged 4.0 points, 2.8 rebounds and 12.0 minutes per game – his best performance being 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting against La Sierra; this marked his debut appearance in an NCAA game. In year two at West Valley College he began as both player of the Year as well as being honored as first team all state player.

Achievement and Honors

Adam Afifi was part of a Forsyth Tech nanotechnology student team that won the National Science Foundation’s 2016 Community College Innovation Challenge (CCIC). Jack Landgraf, Shannon Coalson, Philip York and Edward Cruz-Ortiz all took part in this innovative competition and developed creative solutions to real-world nanotech challenges involving food, water and energy issues.

Afifi was awarded All-Coast South 1st Team honors during his freshman season and later named Coast South Player of the Year after helping West Valley to a 28-4 record, conference championship, and CCAAA State Runner-Up finish. Additionally, Saratoga Times named him Male Athlete of the Year; Cal State Northridge offered him a scholarship offer; his achievements and honors have been acknowledged throughout Saratoga, New Jersey, and beyond.

Personal Life

Born and residing in Cairo, Afifi’s large-scale paintings capture vividly the bustling streets, train stations, factories, coffee shops and daily life of his hometown through brush strokes and textures canvas that convey daily struggles for most residents financially. He hails from Sayeda Zeinab district where many of his pieces take inspiration.

At West Valley College, he excelled at basketball, earning Coast South Conference Player of the Year honors in 2022. After graduation with a degree in business management in 2018, he also served as an assistant coach at Mater Dei Prep Middletown New Jersey.
