Early Life and Education

While her research draws upon letters, memos, script drafts, interviews with many members of cast and crew – some conducted directly by Maerz herself – as well as dialogue excerpts titled from within the movie, Alright, Alright, Alright provides an engaging history lesson of film making that pays homage to its legacy.
Dr. Adam Maerz is an internationally-acclaimed surgeon and specialist in neuro-spine pathologies. As Director of Artemed Klinikum Muenchen Sued in Munich and one of the pioneers of BrainLab- a breakthrough technology for spinal navigation – Dr. Maerz holds various medical leadership roles at top German hospitals.
Dr. Maerz holds a valid Virginia medical license and is affiliated with Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He accepts multiple insurance plans and holds board certification in General Surgery.
Dr. Adam H Maerz brings over three decades of medical expertise to Carilion Clinic General Surgery – Lexington in Lexington, VA as a general surgery specialist and adjunct faculty member of Virginia Tech’s Department of Surgery.
Achievement and Honors

Four-year letter winner at Jeffersontown High School under head coach Scott Fluhr. Achieved all-tournament team honors as a junior, earning district championship honors while also lettering in golf.
Loving husband of Eva (Schlutt) Maerz; father to Norbert, Ruth and Dorothea Maerz; grandfather of Thomas, Cassandra (Abhinav), Nathan, Jonathan Claudia and Stefan Maerz; great-grandfather of Ayrton Alessandra and Aaliyah Portillo.
Adam was an individual who placed great value on family. Loving and considerate, he ensured his grandchildren always received enough ice cream! Adam was an ardent Christian who appreciated story-telling, music and adventure; an accomplished craftsman/builder with strong work ethics, deep faith and strong moral principles.
Melissa Maerz never imagined that Richard Linklater’s 1993 movie Dazed and Confused would alter her life so dramatically as a high school freshman. Now considered a classic, Dazed and Confused launched the careers of many young actors including Matthew McConaughey, Parker Posey and Ben Affleck; Maerz recently wrote an oral history titled Dazed and Confused: The Making of a Modern Classic titled by her.
