Adam Soltani
Adam Soltani serves as Executive Director for CAIR Oklahoma and also works as an Adjunct Instructor of Islamic Studies at Oklahoma State University where he teaches courses such as Introduction to World Religions, Islam Cultural Perspectives and Religions of the Middle East.
He is a recipient of both the 2014 Oklahoma Human Rights Award and 2015 Interfaith Leadership Award, both presented to him. He currently resides with his wife in Oklahoma City.
Early Life and Education
Adam Soltani grew up in a mixed religious household. His mother was Iranian Muslim while his Olathe, Kansas father was Roman Catholic. Adam says that as a child, his faith proved difficult to grasp; only when he turned 17 did he start actively practicing his Ramadan beliefs during Ramadan.
As Executive Director of CAIR Oklahoma, Soltani is active on social media and regularly presents to local schools and organizations about Islam and American Muslims. His goal is to safeguard civil liberties while improving understanding of this faith and upholding justice – his goal being the empowerment of American Muslims.
He graduated with his master’s in Human Relations and Organizational Diversity & Development from the University of Oklahoma and currently lives in Oklahoma City with his wife and children. Prior to moving into private practice he worked for the State of Oklahoma providing assistance to underprivileged families.
Professional Career
Adam Soltani is an esteemed speaker, author and social activist who has appeared on national and international broadcast media outlets. Additionally, he regularly writes on Islam and interfaith dialogue as well as giving presentations at local universities and colleges.
He holds a Master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma in Human Relations with a certificate in Organizational Diversity and Development. In addition, his professional experiences include promoting American Muslim artists for London-based Meem Music; acting as assistant director of outreach for Islamic Society of Greater Oklahoma City; and overseeing youth development programs within his community.
Soltani has served as Executive Director of CAIR-Oklahoma since 2012 and lives in Oklahoma City. Soltani has spoken out against the state GOP chair John Bennett’s remarks regarding Islam as “cancer that must be cut out of America,” making his office require Muslim students sign forms indicating they don’t beat their wives, and accepting an award from an anti-Muslim hate group.
Achievement and Honors
Soltani has earned numerous accomplishments during his lifetime, including membership on the Oklahoma Conference of Churches Religions United Committee, former board membership at Interfaith Alliance of Oklahoma, and planning committee membership at OKC’s Jewish-Muslim Film Institute. Furthermore, he has written articles and been interviewed by local, national, and international broadcast media.
He graduated with a Master’s in Human Relations and Organizational Diversity & Development from the University of Oklahoma. Since then he has provided service to Muslim community in multiple capacities – such as managing American Muslim artists for London-based record label Meem Music; serving as assistant director of outreach at Islamic Society of Greater Oklahoma City; and overseeing youth development programs at Islamic Society of Edmond.
Personal Life
Soltani works to promote Muslim civil rights in Oklahoma by informing residents about anti-discrimination laws in their state. As Executive Director of CAIR-Oklahoma, his primary responsibility includes helping people facing discrimination as well as working closely with local organizations to welcome Muslim refugees into Oklahoma.
He holds memberships in multiple honor societies, serves on the board of a church and manages a psychology lab at Oxford. Being first generation, he strives to stay involved on campus by staying active and finding ways to contribute back.
He holds a Masters degree from the University of Oklahoma in Human Relations and an Organizational Diversity and Development Certificate, and currently works as Adjunct Professor of Islam Cultural Perspectives at Oklahoma State University. Additionally, he lives in Oklahoma City.
