Asa Thomas was born in Gallatin, Tennessee to Mrs. Christen Thomas. His father often recounts a funny anecdote about Asa’s birth; at his arrival the doctor was wearing a Georgia Bulldogs cap which caused great laughter among family and friends alike.
Phil LaScala recognized early on the great potential in Asa, encouraging him to surround himself not with sycophants but teachers of the game. Phil encouraged Asa to recognize that success leaves clues he needed to follow; also emphasizing the joy found in striving for excellence itself – something Asa took to heart becoming not only an exceptional player, but an impressive teacher of the game and loving father and husband.
Professional Career
Asa Thomas has been playing basketball ever since his parents gave him a Little Tikes hoop when he was still toddler. Since then, his shooting skills have flourished, becoming a master at making his shots look effortless as they come through the net. Recently, Asa was one of the top scorers on the UAA 17U circuit this summer while becoming one of Lake Forest High School history’s leading scorers with 1,130 career points scored!
Thomas has long taken pride in defending opponents’ top scoring threats – an approach which has served him well at both prep level and Clemson, where he committed in July.
Three-star recruit, he selected Clemson over Illinois, Iowa, Northwestern, Marquette and Virginia Tech and will join the program from 2023-24.

Bryant Scholarship given out annually for outstanding graduate students studying survey statistics, and been honored as an American Statistical Association Fellow.
Football-wise, Asa is one of Wales’s premier goal scorers with more than 100 league goals for Holyhead Hotspur, Morawelon and Gaerwen combined. Additionally he boasts impressive goalscoring feats in both Welsh Alliance and Gwynedd League competitions, and was part of North Wales Coast squad that represented Wales at 2012-13 UEFA Regions Cup in Macedonia.

Thomas was born and raised in Plano, Idaho with his family. At Highland Academy he played on their football team. Later he went to study psychology and history at Utah.
Asa is an avid sports fan and is proud of his beloved OSU Beavers. When his son Asa was born, even the doctor wearing an OSU cap had one on.
