Early Life and Education
Roof had both a high IQ and unique psychopathology that led him to lavish his family with affection while only maintaining 88 friends – the number corresponding with Hitler’s secret code. Joey, an attractive young white man with large cheeks and an active marijuana habit living in a trailer park alongside his mother and two younger brothers became Roof’s primary living companion and allowed Roof to crash at his place frequently.
Benjamin has become an invaluable member of the roofing community, working closely with aspiring roofers and sharing his knowledge to advance their careers. He takes great pleasure in teaching at Eastern Region Roof Training where his expertise has helped shape many career paths of future roofers.
Benjamin runs his business independently as well, maintaining an outstanding track record in quality workmanship and professionalism in his industry. Additionally, his firm Benjamin Roofing Corp is licensed by New York state to perform home improvement projects exceeding $200. This requirement must also include workers’ compensation coverage.
Achievement and Honors
Benjamin has received several national and international awards for her research. These awards include the Phillip Johnson Publication Award from the Society of Architectural Historians; Best Publication on Theory, History and Criticism at Latin American Biennale of Quito; University of Texas COOP Excellence Creative Research Award.
Benjamin Obdyke not only produces building envelope products, but he is also known for developing and manufacturing a wide array of innovative roof and wall systems. His innovations such as the first roofing ridge vent on a roll, as well as wood wall products which improve water and air flow in rainscreen walls have revolutionized modern building practices.
Jacob attended Wylie High School before going on to earn a business degree at Abilene Christian University. Since then, he has been happily married to Leah Pruitt and proudly raised three beautiful girls: Sydney Sayler Charley. Passionate about roofing industry development relationships with homeowners as well as enjoying watching sports and fly fishing during free time, Jacob loves his job!
Benjamin Roof will be greatly missed by his wife Bertha; children Ellen (Tom Crain) and Jon Roof; grandchildren Nathaniel Cornell and Nickolas Crain as well as Benjamin and Alexis Roof as well as Brianna and Allison Newsom Newsom from his own children; siblings Janice Krapohl, Doris Onstott, Dan Roof as well as numerous nieces and nephews he was part of Our Savior Lutheran Church where he served faithfully; as well as numerous nieces and nephews from Our Savior Lutheran Church membership; all are profoundly missed by all those close to him.
He has long been active in community leadership, serving in organizations that advance forward-looking initiatives. Specifically, he was an officer in the Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce as well as serving on multiple bank advisory boards and committees. Furthermore, he co-founded Empire Disposal which specializes in commercial waste removal services.
His career began at Celotex Corporation (roofing manufacturer), where he served as a roofing projects sales representative before becoming Field Sales Manager for 16 states. Later, he owned Pan-Am Distributing, a multi-location roofing distributor. Now at Empire Roofing – currently overseeing sales for Dallas/Ft Worth operations as well as participating heavily with all associated operations – he leads sales efforts throughout their operations and remains active throughout all associated ventures.
