Dan Flanagan – Partner and Advisory Partner at Canby Financial
Daniel Flanagan is a master of all trades who is unstoppable when it comes to getting what he wants. An entrepreneur and businessman, Daniel has made his mark in the financial sector as both partner and adviser at Canby Financial.
Prior to joining BluSky in 2007, he spent several years working in the restoration industry as well as running an effective direct sales organization. His varied experiences have proven invaluable when driving sales and business development efforts at the company.
Early Life and Education
Flanagan earned a place for himself as an orchestral musician during his lifetime, serving as concertmaster with Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera, Modesto Symphony, West Edge Opera and UC Berkeley Orchestra, performing recitals all across California and the United States.
He wrote several books on music and labor organizing. Additionally, he served in San Francisco Police Department before working at AF of L’s Washington office during World War II, keeping union stability for war production.
Dan is survived by a large and loving family, including his wife of 61 years, Llada; six children: Teresa, Keenan, Colleen, Daniel and Josephine. Additionally, many friends and fans will miss him greatly in Rockland, Maine.
Dan Flanagan is both a Certified Public Accountant and a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM professional. He earned both degrees at Dartmouth, where he majored in accounting, and Bentley University, where he studied financial planning. Dan began his advisory practice in 2000 before joining Canby Financial as part of Canby’s firm Canby Financial in 2014.
He has assisted clients in both tax matters and investment goals throughout his career, in addition to offering financial and governance consulting to non-profits and SMEs.
At one point he worked for a direct sales company where he was charged with recruiting, training and coaching top teams – consistently reaching President’s Club levels each year. Since 2008 he has also been an independent adjuster with Eberl Claim Service handling commercial and residential property claims nationwide.
Achievement and Honors
Dan Flanagan has earned praise as an exceptional musician, receiving rave reviews in New York Concert Reviews and Piedmont Review for his “stellar musicianship with excellent and forthright brio” tone (New York Concert Reviews/Piedmont Review). Additionally to recital work he has performed orchestral concerts across California as well as New York City.
He has received critical acclaim and worldwide broadcast for his performances, being one of the founding members of Farallon Quintet and regularly performing at Cal Performances as well as working alongside Leon Fleisher and Jon Nakamatsu on piano performances.
Dan has an affinity for visual arts and enjoys creating works of music inspired by paintings and sculptures in his collection. His project The Bow and the Brush can be found on MSR Classics with videos featuring Dan’s artwork as an accompaniment.
Flanagan relishes golf with his wife and children as a hobby, winning multiple father/son and mother/daughter championships at RGC and Samoset as well as scoring numerous hole-in-ones (more than once!).
Additionally to his orchestral duties, he is widely-recognized as an accomplished violin teacher and instructor, having taught at UC Berkeley and given solo recitals across North America and Europe.
Flanagan takes pleasure in spending his free time with close friends and colleagues who share his passion for helping those in need, which led him to join Second Stork as its founding chairman – providing mothers with support during gestation and childbirth.
Over two decades, Dan Flanagan has provided individuals, corporations and municipalities with assistance in purchasing, selling, developing and/or monetizing residential, commercial and industrial real estate as well as land suitable for special purposes like quarries. He is widely recognized as a specialist in land brokerage, acquisition assembly and site selection.
Flanagan hails from Sonoita, Arizona and earned her BA degree in broadcast journalism at the University of Arizona. Following graduation she worked as production assistant at KVOA-TV Tucson before joining ESPN as a producer assistant in 2000.
She served for nine years as a sideline reporter for NFL Network, covering Thursday Night Football as well as multiple Super Bowls and Pro Bowls. Additionally, she reported for NBC Sports. Currently living in Del Mar with her husband and children.
