Early Life and Education
Dan was an avid student of statistics, often found with his head buried deep within an almanac or atlas. Known for his dry sense of humor and constant, unfaltering smile, he could always be found smiling from ear-to-ear.
He graduated from Enfield High School and Manchester Community College before serving in the U.S Navy during his younger years. Following military service, he worked at Oregon Department of Environmental Protection in Portland, OR before passing away at age 64 in 2005.
Kathy Crouse was his beloved partner of 46 years and survives along with three of their grandchildren; Eric Grose, Austin and Garrett. Additionally he leaves seven siblings behind him including Belinda Maxfield of Jarrettsville MD; Cathy Mayer (with husband David of Peoria Arizona); Sandra Porter from Havre de Grace MD and Richard Crouse from Abingdon Maryland.
Professional Career
He has held various roles within the commercial real estate industry and boasts extensive experience across retail, office, industrial and flex space – representing major retailers like Target, Lowe’s Marshalls Michaels Hobby Lobby Kmart as well as land development and the sale of commercial/retail/industrial/office properties.
Dan is the firm’s National Leader for Higher Education Engagements and oversees over 100 client relationships across a wide variety of industries. He regularly presents at higher education conferences as well as planning and organizing firmwide higher education training events.
Additionally, he is deeply engaged with the community, serving on the board of Davis College. Additionally, he is a member of both the American Accounting Association and AICPA and has managed audit engagements at both nonprofit organizations and for-profit industries.
Achievement and Honors
Crouse has been honored for her professional contributions with multiple recognitions during her career. She was twice selected by the Department of Psychology as Employee of the Month, and in 2022 was nominated as a finalist for its Staff Excellence Award.
Coworkers praise Daniel’s commitment and desire to assist students, faculty and staff as what sets her apart in her profession. She has assisted numerous graduate students as well as working closely with admissions committee members when reviewing applications.
Even with her intense academic and athletic schedule, she has maintained an outstanding GPA. Additionally, she is an enthusiastic swimmer and working towards double majoring in psychology and special education.
Personal Life
Dan was an Oregon transplant from Connecticut who truly appreciated his new home state. As an ardent father to Danny and cherished member of a large circle of family and friends, he especially relished working for the State of Oregon as it afforded him numerous travel opportunities across Oregon.
He had an unconventional view on life and was always forging ahead in his own direction. A daredevil with a wicked sense of humor, his always present crooked smile was often met by daring stunts or unexpected risks.
He is survived by his wife Rebecca “Becky” Crouse of Scottdale and one son, Shannon Crouse of McLouth; one brother George A. Crouse from Topeka; as well as 12 grandchildren. A funeral service will take place Saturday May 19, 2018 at 10 am at McLouth 1st Baptist Church.

Crouse has guest-starred on several television series including Alias, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Columbo, NYPD Blue and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She first made an impactful mark as Kate McBride on Hill Street Blues in 1986 – her character marked the first appearance of an openly gay character on regular TV series!
