Who is Daniel Farris?
Daniel Farris is an esteemed legal advisor renowned for providing guidance to technology, telecommunications, investment management firms, healthcare providers, financial services entities and consumer businesses. He assists these entities with crafting compliance strategies in line with international, federal and state laws respecting individual privacy rights and data security issues.

Early Life and Education
After graduating from Spelman in 1948, Farris worked as a teacher at W.H. Crogman Elementary School before going on to head up Spelman’s freshman reading program. She earned two master’s degrees – one in social foundations of education from Columbia University in New York City in 1950 and another one in special education two years later.
Farris serves as principal at Lynn High School as well as being certified for instruction in history, English language arts, middle school math, health and physical education and driver’s education. Brad Alsup, assistant principal since 2005 at Lynn High School has said Farris is an exceptional individual who will do an outstanding job: He comes from an amazing family who are deeply invested in this community; in addition, being from Lynn means Farris will build on past successes to expand on past achievements and fortify future ones.
Professional Career
Daniel Farris grew up in a musical family. His mother was a gospel singer, while her brother played bass; their experiences helped foster Daniel’s passion for music, as he also enjoyed attending jam sessions with his uncle.
At college, Faris wanted to play professional basketball but was uncertain of his prospects. One evening at The Pit he heard fans shout, “You stink Faris!” Although these comments weren’t meant as insults they served as a reminder that more work needed to be done on his game.
He has represented clients in complex litigation matters and been honored as a Rising Star between 2014-2019. Based in Illinois, he specializes in Technology Transaction issues for his clients.
Achievement and Honors
Farris also volunteers as an attorney and mentor within the legal community, coaching Moot Court at Loyola University Chicago and giving guest lectures. He serves on the Southeast Side Education Incubator board.
He mentors high school students and is involved with creating law-related curricula for local schools. Furthermore, he spearheads a pro bono initiative at his firm.
Farris serves not only as Partner-in-Charge of Chicago Office but is also an advisor and leader of US Technology Transactions group of his firm. Additionally, he advises business clients on traditional intellectual property matters including data center/cloud computing issues, information management needs and privacy/security needs, large transactions as well as more traditional matters related to traditional IP law.
Personal Life
Dan is an attentive father and husband with seven years of educational leadership experience. Currently the Principal at Prattville High School, he prioritizes students above all else. Dan enjoys Civil War reenactments as well as outdoor activities such as kayaking. When not teaching he enjoys cooking and baking.
His three sons, Davion, Daniel and Darryl Farris are each accomplished musicians in their own right; his daughter Tiffany Gouche is an award-winning actress and singer; together they form what could be called the next-gen Winans family.
His mother, Jackie, instilled musical wisdom in all of her children and ensured they learned an instrument. Today, Jackie Farris/Gouche family are household names among music and hip hop enthusiasts; their commitment to family and purpose will ensure their continued growth for future generations.
