Junior Buck/SAM linebacker who appeared in 11 games this season and started five. Tallied 29 tackles (three tackles for loss and one sack). Unfortunately suffered an ACL injury against Clemson which forced her to miss two additional contests of her rookie campaign; nonetheless she earned SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll status for her efforts.
Daniel Fennell is an American diplomat and career member of the Senior Foreign Service with the rank of Minister Counselor. He has held positions abroad as both Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) and Acting DCM; for example at U.S. embassies in Guatemala and Accra, Ghana.
Early Life and Education
Daniel Fennell arrived at South Carolina’s fall practices unsure of his role on the team. Although recruited as a linebacker from Grayson High School in Loganville, Georgia and had played that position throughout high school and recruiting processes, linebackers coach Coleman Hutzler had asked him to push himself beyond his comfort zone – something which proved both daunting and beneficial to Daniel Fennell’s development as an athlete. It ultimately paid off!
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Vera, daughters Sharon Carrieri (and Massimo) of Newton and Denise Fennell Pasqualone of Los Angeles; several nephews, nieces, cousins and many dear friends he will be missed dearly for his laughter and wit.
He was the daughter of Elizabeth Ross and William Peter Fennell Jr. from Newark.
Professional Career
Fennell has spent his career as a member of the Senior Foreign Service, rising to Minister Counselor. He has held posts overseas in Guatemala, Iraq and Ghana; as well as in Washington in the Offices of Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice as well as at International Organizations Bureau.
Redshirt senior Loganville native Nick McGovern played in 11 games with five starts for South Carolina last season before suffering an ACL tear against Clemson that forced his recovery process. Additionally, Loganville native represented South Carolina on its SEC Football Leadership Council and earned SEC academic honor roll recognition.
Daniel started attending FLW events as a teenager, starting to emcee tour qualifying round weigh-ins in 2005 and eventually taking over full-time as Phoenix Bass Fishing League presented by T-H Marine director in 2011. Today he oversees Pro Circuit events.
Achievement and Honors
Daniel Fennell has published several books and earned numerous awards for his research, scholarship and teaching. He possesses an in-depth knowledge of history, social norms and racism; conducted archaeological excavations at 19th century sites; founded Journal of African Diaspora Archaeology and Heritage; as well as serving on its editorial board as founding editor.
Author of numerous articles and presenter of numerous conferences both domestically and abroad. Has appeared on television programs including Fifth Gear. Has worked with musical artists including Angela Brown, Bill and Gloria Gaither, Sandi Patty and David Clydesdale.
He is the proud father of Sharon Carrieri and Massimo Pasqualone and Denise Fennell Pasqualone; and grandfather to Rocco and Antonio Carrieri as well as Isabella and Anthony Pasqualone. Vera Fennell survives him.
Personal Life
Daniel Fennell enjoys hiking, running and playing strategy games in his free time. As part of Viox’s surveying team he spends his weekends exploring national parks like Glacier National Park in Montana as well as watching movies and TV shows such as Breaking Bad and Parks and Recreation.
He is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service with Minister Counselor grade. He has held overseas assignments in Guatemala, Iraq, Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico Canada and Ghana; in Washington he worked in Colin Powell’s Office, Condoleezza Rice’s Office as well as with International Organizations Bureau and Iraq Affairs offices.
He is married to Maria Prieto, his college sweetheart, and together they share two daughters named Amanda and Elizabeth. Together they reside in Washington, DC area.

Fennell was estimated to have amassed a net worth of over $110 Million as of August 2023. He founded Trident Waste & Recycling, which provides waste collection services in Tri-County area. Furthermore, Lowcountry Hotels is his co-founding hospitality investment firm featuring six hotels including Hilton Garden Inn Charleston Airport & Convention Center as part of their portfolio.
Dr. DeMarco has an extensive background in mining, having held several positions with various gold companies. In 1983 he established Golden Star Resources Ltd which quickly grew to become one of Canada’s premier exploration firms before it was eventually purchased by Cambiex Explorations Ltd in 1998. As its president and CEO he served until that company was purchased.
