Daniel Rowe may never have reached stadium-filling musical heights, but that has not stopped his passion from translating to an impressive business career. Now leading Deloitte Ontario Business he specializes in helping middle market and large enterprise companies develop strategies and realize their ambitions.

Doctoral student Mary Kociuba from our lab will travel to Singapore this week in order to present her research on improving MRI methods for fetal and neonatal development at JSM. We wish Mary the best!

Early Life and Education

Dan Rowe grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and attended Freedom High School. There, he won two state titles each in basketball and baseball – as well as numerous track and field events during his time at Freedom.

He later attended Ithaca College where he initially pursued music but later changed to economics as his major – eventually graduating with both subjects simultaneously.

Rowe rose through the ranks at W.M. Sword & Company to become managing director and develop his own clientele. Though close to his family, he purchased majority control of the company by his late-20s.

Rowe later expanded and transformed his lifelong hobby of collecting autographs into The Written Word Autographs business, while remaining a committed father and grandfather.

Professional Career

Daniel Rowe has established an exceptional career as a tax and wealth advisor. Prior to joining GHJ, Daniel was a tax partner at TSJ Deemer Dana LP in Georgia and JH Cohn in New York; providing year-round tax planning advice and guidance for high net-worth individuals as well as assistance with federal, state and local audits.

He thoroughly enjoyed learning the legal theory and policy surrounding tax accounting, and was grateful for Professor Pratt’s dedication to her students, offering review sessions for evening courses.

Attwood has also been published in multiple real estate and tax journals and regularly presents continuing education seminars to attorneys and CPAs. Furthermore, he is widely known for his expertise regarding pass-through entities like partnerships and S-Corporations.

Achievement and Honors

Daniel Rowe is an award-winning journalist, writer, photographer and community activist with seven years of experience reporting Kanien’keha:ka community news for Kahnawake’s Eastern Door newspaper. He has won multiple Paul Dumont-Frenette Outstanding Journalism awards as well as written extensively on Indigenous issues.

Lab CMPS PhD alumni Iain Bruce and Andrew Hahn both received papers accepted at this year’s Joint Sociolinguistic Meeting (JSM), while Lab member Mary Kociuba also presented her work at this year’s JSM and successfully passed her dissertation proposal defense! Muge Karaman published his paper on simultaneous multi-slice SPECS image separation into Magnetic Resonance Imaging journal. Congratulations all!

Personal Life

Rowe transformed emerging brands such as Five Guys, JARS, Rise and Halal Guys from concept to global sensations through franchising. Additionally, he founded Fransmart to assist emerging franchise brands through acquisition and management services.

He was on vacation with his girlfriend’s family when a rip current swept him out to sea on June 20, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Sadly, he died just sixty days before turning 19th birthday.

Erron Coleman, accused of killing Rowe, made his first court appearance as a suspect Tuesday. Rowe’s parents watched as Coleman was charged with his son’s homicide and could face up to 20 years behind bars if found guilty.

Net Worth

Rowe has amassed approximately $30 Million throughout his lifetime as a television host and narrator on shows such as Dirty Jobs and Somebody’s Gotta Do It which he created himself for Discovery channel and CNN.

Sword, Rowe & Company has maintained core areas of its business such as mid-market advisory work and classic investment banking for private companies. Sword, Rowe & Company also assists businesses in raising capital from private equity firms or strategic investors.

Dan is also a partner at Fransmart, where he has successfully identified and expanded brands like Five Guys Burgers & Fries, Sweetgreen, Cava by Chloe, and eegee’s from single unit businesses into powerful chains with billion-dollar in revenues since their initial franchise investments.
