Daniel Summa – A Loving Brother, Father, Grandfather, and Friend
Daniel Summa serves as Senior Vice President of Asset & Energy Management for Clearway. In this position he oversees commercial and energy management of one of the nation’s largest operating platforms of wind, solar and storage assets. Daniel has also served on the board for Invenergy LLC. Daniel is brother to PGA Tour professional Boyd Summerhays and nephew of Bruce Summerhays Jr.
Early Life and Education
Daniel Summa attended multiple schools before earning a law degree with honors from Case Western Reserve University School of Law, cum laude. Daniel has extensive pro bono experience representing asylum seekers in New Hampshire federal court proceedings and international child custody disputes in Boston.
He has also been actively engaged in community organizations, working to increase access to higher education for at-risk youth. As co-founder of the Summa Children’s Foundation, which has distributed millions of dollars to deserving nonprofit organizations over its 30-year existence.
Holy Scripture does not specify Daniel’s fate following his departure from Babylon, yet Jewish tradition associates him with Asphenez (Daniel 1: 5) and some Chaldean professors of astrology and magic.
Dan is adept in handling cases both jury and non-jury trials. He possesses substantial expertise prosecuting and defending commercial, product liability, professional malpractice, insurance, and consumer protection matters.
At Clearway Energy Group, he serves as Senior Vice President of Asset and Energy Management. Here he oversees commercial and energy management of one of the nation’s largest operating platforms of wind, solar and storage assets with 8GW in generation across 26 states; furthermore he oversees their nationwide pipeline of renewable projects worth 30 GW in capacity.
As part of his service to his community, he volunteers at Roanoke Legal Aid’s pro bono hotline and Rule of Law project. In his free time he enjoys running, biking and reading good novels.
Achievement and Honors
Dan received honorable graduations from both Norman North High School and the University of Oklahoma College of International Studies. After earning his law degree at Georgetown University, he clerked for Judge Amul Thapar on the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and Judge Jeffrey Sutton on the United States District Court for Eastern Kentucky.
Thomas J. Williamson is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) as well as being on the medical staff at Summa Health System since 2006. Additionally, he teaches for ASMBS’ bariatric surgical training program as an instructor while serving as program director of Ohio’s Advanced GI MIS Foregut and Bariatric Surgery Fellowship Program.
He is part of the S. Daniel Abraham Honors Program, which brings together outstanding scholars for an exceptional academic and extracurricular experience. Honors students enrol in honor courses with faculty mentoring, complete a research project, enjoy special guest speakers, cultural outings to top NYC destinations, and leadership workshops.
Daniel Summa was an exceptional son, brother, father, husband and friend who loved being involved with his community and meeting new people from diverse backgrounds. An avid traveler himself, Daniel explored many countries worldwide during his lifetime.
He graduated Auburn High School as class salutatorian and National Merit Scholarship Recipient on full scholarship. At University of Alabama Tuscaloosa he continued on this full scholarship; ultimately earning a summa cum laude bachelor’s degree.
He was survived by his wife Judy, two daughters (Debra Udvarnoky and Doreen Valdes); one son Daniel Summa; a granddaughter Amanda; and several nieces and nephews. On November 16th in San Francisco there was a memorial service.
Pastor Summa was a loving and generous Husband, Father, Grandfather & friend to all. He revered God & faithfully served his church until his passing. Additionally he loved music & was an accomplished musician – singing, piano & accordion were just some of his talents! Dan owned Dan’s Painting & Decorating for 60 years as well as serving in the U.S. Army Reserve for 6 years – in between these endeavors he also managed a family business called Dan’s Painting & Decorating which he ran with Judy who cared for their wife Judy as well as two daughters Debra Udvarnoky & Doreen Valdes; Daniel Summa is another son that will continue Dan’s family legacy with four grandkids plus several nieces & nephews to call home!
