Daniels Preserve – A Gated Community in Fort Myers

Daniels Preserve is a gated community located in Fort Myers within the Gateway area close to Southwest Florida International Airport and Red Sox spring training, featuring homes that provide convenient access to shopping and restaurants.

As Schaus’ swallowtail populations declined rapidly, Daniels took it upon himself to preserve them through captive breeding and reintroduction; their numbers now stand in the thousands.

Early Life and Education

VMI Board of Visitors honored him with the Jonathan M. Daniels ’61 Humanitarian Award, honoring the virtue of humanitarian public service. Additionally, barracks courtyard was named in his honor and an archway dedicated to him at VMI.
