David Denoon and Nikkei Asia
New York University professor David Denoon has complained to a reporter with Nikkei Asia magazine of misquoting him in an article. According to Denoon, there is no anti-Asian sentiment in America.
Professor Denoon also noted that Asian Americans and immigrants earn more and perform better on tests than average Americans, according to his opinion. When interviewed by Marrian Zhou for the report, Professor Denoon did not believe racism to be a widespread issue in the U.S.
Early Life and Education
Denoon has an impressive background in public service. He served the Federal Government in three capacities – program economist for USAID in Jakarta, vice president of the U.S. Export-Import Bank and deputy assistant secretary of defense.
He has served as director of the Center on U.S.-China Relations at New York University since 2007. Additionally, he is the author of numerous books.
He holds a bachelor’s degree from Harvard, an M.P.A from Princeton and a Ph.D. from M.I.T. In addition to this he is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and fellow at Asia Society; furthermore his works have been published widely in prestigious journals.

David Denoon has achieved great success during his long and illustrious career, earning him numerous accolades in both private and public sectors. A graduate of the esteemed University of Texas at Austin, he moved to New York for a short while before returning home to Houston to start the family business. Ever since, David has been an integral part of Houston’s community by serving on boards for various philanthropic organizations while taking care of three furry companions. Nikkei Asia published an April article in which Professor Chua was quoted as claiming there is no widespread anti-Asian sentiment in America. Later, however, he asserted that his statements had been misquoted and misrepresented.
He explained to Marrian Zhou in the article that Asian Americans and immigrants make “substantially more” than average Americans, as well as performing better on standardized tests than their American peers. This supports his assertion that there is no widespread anti-Asian sentiment in America.
