Early Life and Education

As a young girl in Texas, Bessie Coleman promised to one day “amount to something”. Her pursuit of knowledge began early with an educational tour around the state and an opportunity to study at a local school; however, her education didn’t stop there when her family relocated to Waxahachie where she enrolled in the city’s first black school and completed all eight grades – earning her high school diploma along the way. After graduation she found employment as an assistant teacher at one of Waxahachie’s only black elementary schools where her achievements were recognized quickly; eventually being promoted to principal and elected onto the city’s board of trustees.

Professional Career

George’s basketball career has been filled with both triumphs and setbacks. He’s had to deal with off-court distractions, such as an alleged stripper who claimed she was seven months pregnant with his child.

He declined invitations to appear on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and compete in the All-Star Slam Dunk contest, due to the media scrutiny of his personal life.

Back home in Palmdale, California, he was just another kid who enjoyed playing basketball. He was the blue-collar type who always finished first during practice sprints and occasionally hit an unfortunate shape-up after getting his haircut. That is until early February when allegations that he impregnated a stripper surfaced. That began his meteoric rise from hometown team in the ABA league to national spotlight status.
