Achievement and Honors

Once Henri had established himself in New York as both painter and art educator, he invited Kent, Hopper, and Bellows to Monhegan for the first time since 1903. Teaching duties at the New York School of Painting and Sculpture reduced his painting time; nonetheless he continued bringing these aspiring artists with him every summer through 1916; Bellows was especially moved by Henri’s depictions of opposing forces of nature that Henri captured through painting.
