Jack Boyden – The Best Goaltender in the Tournament
John Boyden is an extremely skilled goaltender. His ability to defend against almost any aggressive defense makes him one of the finest players in this tournament.
He has an extraordinary set of abilities which enable him to excel at what he does, with an outstanding attitude and always ready for play.
Early Life and Education
Hilltoppers veteran player John All-Metro earned All-Metro recognition and led his senior class team to a state group AAA quarterfinal finish as a senior.
Boyden earned three major honors during his junior season: NESCAC Player of the Year and Lt. Col. Jack Turnbull Outstanding Attackman awards for scoring 69 goals and 88 assists while garnering widespread praise for his extraordinary playmaking skills and becoming an internet meme.
Boyden joined Richmond’s coaching staff in 2022, leading the Spiders to win both a regular-season conference championship and make an NCAA Tournament appearance in his inaugural year of service. Boyden is an accomplished college administrator – his expertise with faith-based institutions has had an enormous impact on increasing organizational efficiency and financial security.
Professional Career
He was an expert in higher education, having held roles such as president, provost, dean and senior executive. His areas of expertise included developing strategic plans, optimizing academic programs and improving student life – in addition to being adept in talent acquisition.
Boyden is an all-purpose player capable of filling any position on the field. A standout in faceoffs and shooting, his footwork allows him to operate with or without the ball; and his exceptional vision allows him to find feeds in areas others cannot reach; making him a major threat against any defense. Boyden still has two years of eligibility remaining with big time DI schools showing interest; making him an invaluable member of any team! He’s hard-working and makes a fantastic teammate as well.
Achievement and Honors
Boyden earned top national ranking when he amassed an unprecedented Division III-leading total of 69 goals and 88 assists during last season, helping the Jumbos claim national glory. Now part of Virginia men’s lacrosse, his goal is to lead them back into glory once more!
Boyden has been named to the 2023 Tewaaraton Award Watch List. He joins 10 other players on the watch list that honors college men’s and women’s lacrosse players.
At UVA, he will be mentored by Kevin Cassese – newly appointed offensive coordinator and associate head coach from Lehigh – after 16 seasons as its head coach; replacing Sean Kirwan who left Lehigh to take over Dartmouth’s program.
Personal Life
Boyden is an active volunteer at both the Colchester Garden Club and Collaborative for Colchester’s Children, working toward his Eagle Scout rank while helping establish the StoryWalk at Ruby and Elizabeth Cohen Woodlands as a community resource for literacy and environmental education.
Boyden joined Richmond’s coaching staff for 2022-23 and helped guide them to an easy regular-season Big South championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance, their first since 2021. Prior to Richmond, Boyden spent six seasons as an assistant coach at Western Kentucky where he led them to two Sun Belt Conference titles and an appearance in Division III national championship game as well as five 20-win seasons during his tenure – leading WKU’s program with five record 20-win campaigns! Furthermore, Boyden coached faceoff position for four seasons at WKU before moving onto Richmond in 2022-23.
Net Worth
Boyden has not only worked as a writer, but he has also contributed his talents as videographer, forager and farmer to multiple projects. These have included Project EAT as well as working five months with San Kor Tea where his duties included foraging/harvesting duties as well as syrup production.
He has also worked with Slow Food UW and F.H King Students for Sustainable Agriculture, running an 8-foot bike trailer program to collect organic food waste in Madison. Furthermore, he contributes regularly to Breathe for Change–an organization which uses mindfulness and yoga techniques to empower teachers.
Boyden prefers to keep his personal life private and has yet to announce his relationship status on social media. He enjoys working out and lives a healthy lifestyle.
