Jack Lowery is an author, teacher, and motivational speaker specializing in mental health advocacy and has spoken in multiple countries around the globe.
Lowary never expected to become Missouri’s starting quarterback, but when his chance came he made sure to seize it. Now working under Derek Dooley as a graduate assistant, Lowary specializes in supporting Missouri’s backups – particularly Micah Wilson – which allows for his focus to shift toward improving them as opposed to starting players.
Early Life and Education
Jack Lowary was an outgoing “people person”, making the most of every interaction with friends and family. With a strong work ethic and selling being his focus, Jack started his career at Connecticut General Life Insurance Company in Des Moines before transitioning into sales roles at The Principal Financial Group of Kansas City.
He was born in Manitou, Oklahoma to Lee and Lorena Alice Lowery on April 20, 1933 and lived through an unconventional childhood due to their military lifestyle before eventually graduating high school.
Later in his life he married and had children while also owning and operating three separate businesses during his lifetime. He is survived by his wife Janice and four grandchildren; however his parents, sister, and brother all predeceased him. Additionally he leaves behind Roy Lowry (Stepdaughter) and Jackie Lowry (Stepson), as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Professional Career
After graduating from Mater Dei High School, Jack Lowary became quarterback for Long Beach CC and completed an impressive first season by throwing for 3,306 yards and 28 touchdowns – earning Southern California Football Association National Division All-Central League Second Team recognition.
Mizzou head coach Barry Odom may not require an abundance of guaranteed star power at quarterback, but he bolstered his roster this spring by adding Long Beach CC graduate transfer Jack Lowary and redshirt freshman Micah Wilson from Oregon State as well as walk-on Zane Jacoby for next fall.
Lowary has proven his worth as a transition partner for Wilson and Scott during their high school pro-style offense transitions, helping them transition smoothly. Lowary also proved invaluable this offseason while learning Dooley’s offense.
Achievement and Honors
Mizzou’s quarterback depth chart is quickly evolving with Drew Lock slated to return as their starting QB this season, adding graduate transfer Shawn Robinson and redshirt freshman Micah Wilson as well as incoming freshman Connor Bazelak into their lineup.
Lowary is an underappreciated junior from Santa Ana Mater Dei who continues to shine without receiving much notice. Last season he completed nearly 60 percent of his passes and tossed 20 touchdowns!
Lowary was recruited to Missouri under offensive coordinator Derek Dooley who recruited her. According to Lowary’s mentorship role within the quarterback room and relaying play-call signals for Lock, Lowary is also helping Lock adjust to Dooley’s pro-style offense by working on fundamentals and reads with him.
Personal Life
Lowary was an expert nurseryman and avid collector of vintage automobiles; his Cadillac hearse was used for plant deliveries to clients. Additionally, he enjoyed gardening as well as military service in Hawaii, California, Florida and Mexico with his wife. His family recalls fondly their trips together.
Mater Dei baseball team standout, and earned Southern California Football Association All-Central League Second Team recognition as a sophomore by throwing for over 3,300 yards and 28 touchdowns as an offensive weapon in 2015.
Jack Lowery currently practices law at Lowery, Lowery & Cherry PLLC in Lebanon Tennessee where he practices criminal defense, personal injury law and civil litigation.
