Jack Roop – A Lifelong Canadian

Jack Roop was an insurance company president who took great pleasure in serving his customers and was always doing everything he could to do the best job for them. Additionally, he was dedicated and passionate member of his community; serving on multiple boards and committees.

His legacy includes his loving wife of 67 years, son Bill and daughter Mary Jacqueline; seven very special grandchildren who affectionately called him “Gordie;” plus numerous nephews and nieces.

Early Life and Education

Roop was not only an accomplished writer, but he was also a committed educator who believed strongly in the power and importance of reading for children. Roop found great pleasure sharing his passion for writing with students.

He believed in cultivating an impeccable work ethic; whether in the mechanic shop or as service manager at Lewis Chevrolet, he always appreciated hard work and acknowledged it with honor.

As soon as he graduated high school, he entered Fanshawe College’s two-year radio broadcasting program and upon graduating, began work for BEA-VER Communications’ CKSY FM95 radio station and eventually the CKUE-FM morning show before later hosting Roop Wix and Meg in the Morning on 104.1 The Dock (he is also Director of Programming of The Dock’s parent company Larche Communications).

Professional Career

Jack valued hard work and upheld an ethical work ethic, taking great satisfaction in having been employed without receiving unemployment payments for so long.

Roop filed his lawsuit against SPC and Lingle on the basis that he was terminated for reporting conduct which violated 42 U.S.C. 1320a-7b(b)(2) (2012) of Medicare and Medicaid Anti-Kickback Statute (MACS).

On appeal, we find sufficient evidence was presented at trial to support a jury verdict that Roop was fired for reporting illegal activity. Therefore, the circuit court’s judgment overturning said verdict must be reversed, and this case remanded for proceedings regarding Roop’s claim for punitive damages. Roop is survived by his wife Mary Frances; son Bill (Jan); daughter Mary Jacqueline and three great grandchildren Mila, Aspen and Charlee.
