Jack Schnoor was an exceptional husband, father and educator. After moving from Winnipeg to Toronto in 1977 and working at Children’s Aid Society he taught Social Service Worker courses at Sheridan College for 17 years before passing away unexpectedly in 2010.

Early Life and Education

Jack Schnoor was born at his family ranch in Chowchilla, California to Logan and Ruby Schnoor and attended Chowchilla Elementary and Union High schools before enlisting with the US Army during the Korean Conflict for two years of service.

After returning from service, he joined his brother as part of Schnoor Brothers partnership and started farming cotton, corn, alfalfa, potatoes and eventually solely almonds.

Jack retired from Sheridan College in 1997 with Professor Emeritus status, leaving an amazing legacy of wisdom, kindness, and humor that touched so many. Professional Career

He and his wife owned a large farm where they cultivated cotton, wheat, corn, alfalfa and vegetables – as well as raising cattle and hogs for slaughtering – before receiving numerous agricultural awards like Madera County 2004 Senior Farmer of the Year and Honorary Future Farmers of America award. He took great pride in having received such recognition.

Jessie, Kyra and Lily were incredibly special to him, as was life itself: taking walks, reading books or eating tasty food were some of his favorite pastimes. As an enthusiastic Bombers supporter he enjoyed sharing his enthusiasm.

The family would like to express its deep appreciation to all of the friends and medical professionals who have provided support during this difficult period. A memorial scholarship fund has been set up in his name.

Achievement and Honors

Madera County Farm Bureau Senior Farmer of the Year and National Corn Growers Association award winner, Mr. Reyes is also a member of several local agricultural organizations like Chowchilla Chamber of Commerce as well as being on both boards; Merced College and Madera High School Board.

He is a proud father to two sons and one daughter and believes in teaching his children to be kind and helpful. He frequently reminds his family of the fruit of the Spirit’s fruits such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness faithfulness gentleness self-control.

He has made significant contributions to his community by serving as President of the Chowchilla Chamber of Commerce, Trustee for Madera School District and member of 20-30 Club.

Personal Life

Jack was an active member of Chowchilla United Methodist Church, serving as both chairman and treasurer on its official church board as well as leading Sunday School children in songs of praise.

He was an avid golfer who took great pleasure in watching baseball games with his family, reading books and going for long walks with his beloved pet dog Charlie.

Jack inspired many with his wisdom, gentleness, and sense of humor – his family, students, colleagues and those who met him will miss him dearly. Jack would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to the physicians and nurses from Temy Latner Centre for Palliative Care Hamilton Regional Cancer Centre as well as home caregivers for helping in his last days, with Cantor Tracy Kasner leading his service at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery where he will rest peacefully.

Jack Schnoor had an extraordinary and meaningful life, dedicated to family, community and agriculture. A respected valley farmer and businessman in Madera County, he earned several production awards from National Corn Growers Association as Madera Senior Farmer of the Year.

He is the founder of Riverview Ranches and Minturn Nut Company. Additionally, he has invested in numerous startups as a major shareholder of Warrior Met Coal Inc and trades stocks and commodities on a regular basis.

At Sheridan College, in memory of Jack Schnoor, an endowed scholarship was created in his honour that recognizes a student who exhibits caring and interpersonal abilities that mirror his. This award honors any candidate demonstrating these characteristics.
