Jack Troy taught pottery at Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA for 39 years, leading over 230 workshops both domestically and abroad. His books Salt Glazed Ceramics and Wood Fired Stoneware and Porcelain remain standards in their fields of study.

This week marks the start of playoffs in the Jack Troy League and one team, Putnam, is an early favorite after enjoying an unblemished regular season.

Early Life and Education

Jack moved his young wife Jeanne to Troy Township and they purchased a farm in Poppleton. Though initially skeptical of life in a rural community, she eventually grew fond of it. Jack became actively involved with civic affairs; becoming a member of Clawson-Troy Elks and president of local American Legion Post No. 167 respectively; in addition he served as volunteer firefighter and board trustee of their school district.

He taught at Juniata College for 39 years and led over 230 workshops for potters during that time. Additionally, he published books including Salt Glazed Ceramics and Wood Fired Stoneware and Porcelain.

On the Dothan Campus, a new building dedicated to Wallace D. Malone — former President Pro Tempore of the Board of Trustees — opens and is dedicated in his honor.

Professional Career

Troy was an accomplished potter who taught ceramics at Juniata College for thirty-nine years, during which time he built Pennsylvania’s first anagama-style kiln both on campus and at his Huntingdon residence, as well as workshops across Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. Additionally, he published more than 60 articles for major pottery periodicals while his books Salt-Glazed Ceramics and Wood Fired Stoneware and Porcelain became standard reference texts in their field.

Troy Polamalu, one of the greatest American Football safeties of his era, spent 12 seasons in the National Football League with Pittsburgh Steelers before going into retirement in 2011. Since retiring Polamalu has gone on to be recognized as an exceptional author and motivational speaker; currently working as Radio Format Director for Vista Radio Kelowna BC.

Achievement and Honors

Jack Troy has been teaching ceramics for more than 39 years at colleges, universities and art centers throughout the US as well as in Japan, Australia and New Zealand. His works can be found in private and public collections worldwide including Smithsonian Institution (Smithsonian), Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park in Japan (Shigarak Ceramic Cultural Park) Auckland Museum of Art & Kalamazoo Institute of Arts).

Troy University recently honored two students and one faculty member with its 2016 Algernon Sydney Sullivan Awards, honoring those who excel in academics, leadership development, professional growth and campus/community service. These awards went to Katie Pouncey (Wetumpka) and Jorge Solis (Pell City). Both received recognition.

Jack Troy is an internationally recognized potter who has taught ceramics at Juniata College for 39 years. Furthermore he has contributed articles to over 60 pottery periodicals while hosting over 230 workshops around the globe.

Family man who shares an enduring bond with Troy. He encourages him to attend college and gives him his old truck as an incentive. Gabriella appreciates him supporting their efforts in talent shows while Troy needs him as his basketball coach.

Mr. Sheehan is well known throughout Bennettsbridge, Kilkenny and Gowran Park Golfing club for the quality of his work and how he treats people in his community. He holds high regard among his peers due to the respect he enjoys among residents there.
