Baranowski is a well-known Polish engineer who worked on many inventions, such as a gas meter, automatic railway signaling, and semaphore. He was a polyglot and knew Polish, German, French, and English. Among the many inventions that Baranowski invented were several calculating devices.

Baranowski developed a bookkeeping system for the Paris-Rouen-Le Havre railway company. He also developed a machine for stamping tickets accurately. The machine consists of a faceplate with openings, commercial table, and a ready-reckoner.

During his youth, he worked as a camp guide. He also played hockey and ran a junior curling league. In his later years, he loved to fish and went out on the lake whenever he could.

Baranowski was a member of the Catholic faith. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and was a veteran of the Vietnam conflict. He was also a member of the DAV-Disabled American Veterans. His family suggested memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association.
