John Dushinski
John Dushinski, a former CFL player and current Calgary urologist specializing in endourology, is an active volunteer physician at Rockyview General Hospital and enjoys practicing his specialty.
He is the son of Francis and Dorothy (Motton) Dushinski; beloved husband to Dorothy Cataldo; loving papa to Susan of Revere and John of Revere; fond grandfather of Brandon, Sabrina and Brenna Dushinski; dear brother to Richard Dushinski of Florida, Dorothy Harvey and William from Las Vegas as well as Frances DiPessa from Florida.
Early Life and Education
John Dushinski was born around 1894 in Poland and immigrated to the United States in 1940. Married to Helen Dushinski, they had two daughters. John served his country with distinction during World War II. Ultimately settling in Chelsea Massachusetts, he became an influential member of his community for many years until passing away on January 24, 2022 at 85 years old. Susan and John, brother to Richard and Dorothy, as well as beloved grandfather to Brandon and Sabrina were his beloved grandchildren; most importantly though, John was a kind and dedicated friend to all men alike.
Professional Career
John Dushinski was Chief of Urology in Calgary and an expert urologist by training. His treatments of kidney stones and other urinary conditions utilized minimally invasive techniques that earned him recognition from the Canadian Medical Association. Furthermore, John served on the board of directors at both Calgary Prostate Cancer Centre and Canadian Medical Association.
He was a highly-respected member of the Calgary community and an active volunteer for Global Aid Society in the West Bank. He and his wife Brenda – a Registered Nurse – spent one week there, meeting with physicians from Ramallah and Jerusalem to discuss issues such as medical equipment needs, supplies shortages and education – both lecture format and hands-on teaching techniques. Most importantly, doctors expressed their desire to collaborate with local communities in providing much needed services and resources for patients.

John Dushinski (’84 BSc (Spec),’91 MD) specializes in endourology, treating kidney stones and other urinary problems with minimally invasive techniques. He practices out of Rockyview General Hospital and maintains one of Calgary’s largest practices on this topic. John has also authored several articles and a book related to it as well as being an avid cyclist and skier. Furthermore, John serves as a valued member of the Calgary Prostate Cancer Centre Board since 2013.
Dushinski has achieved great success professionally, yet he also takes great pride in his family life. As the proud parent of two sons and a daughter, he truly lives up to his name.

On January 24, 2022, Francis Dushinski passed away at the age of 85 from Chelsea, Massachusetts. He was the beloved son and husband of Dorothy (Motton) Dushinski; loving father to Susan of Revere and John Dushinski also of Revere; adored grandfather to Brandon, Sabrina and Brenna Dushinski; brother to Richard Dushinski in Florida, Dorothy Harvey in Las Vegas Nevada and Frances DiPesa also of Florida as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Judith (Cataldo) Dushinski; son Thad; daughter Donna; sister Caroline Daly; brothers Thomas and Edward; as well as numerous loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
