John Duvic
John Duvic is a high school football player from Benet Academy in suburban Chicago. As the kicker, he broke his father’s school record with an amazing 54-yard field goal during last week’s 40-7 win against East Suburban Catholic.
At 17, she has already caught the attention of colleges such as Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana.
Early Life and Education
John Duvic was born on March 15, 1884 in New Orleans to Ellen and Thomas J. Lacey. He attended school and later college at Tulane University before settling down in the Irish Channel area of the city.
He graduated from Louisiana State University in 1922 and worked as a longshoreman. In 1950 he wed Yvonne Duvic and moved to Austin, Texas; there he taught science at Lamar Junior High School before becoming assistant superintendent for the Austin Independent School District.
He strongly believes in the value of excellent public education. Senior psychology major Taylor Hebert and junior computer science major Christina Hoover first heard about Roe v. Wade when they were still in high school, but now view its overturn as a monumental victory for women’s rights.
Professional Career
John Duvic kicked a 42-yard field goal as time expired to give Northwestern a 14-13 win over Wisconsin in 1985, and nobody saw it coming. The Badgers had been dominating the series with 13 straight victories. But the Badgers finally broke through with Duvic’s last-second field goal!
The Kansas kicker position is competitive, with incumbent Matthew Wyman looking shaky and two young transfers competing for the job. If Duvic can bring his high school consistency into college, he could make an immense difference on Kansas’ offense.
He is a recent graduate of Benet Academy in suburban Chicago who broke his father’s school record with a 54-yard field goal and has caught the attention of college programs across the country. During a two-week midseason stretch, he drained five of nine field goals which earned him an award for best place-kicking performance by a freshman – an accolade which still resonates today.
