Early Life and Education
The early years of a child’s life are critical to their development. These are the years in which they form valuable relationships, develop partnerships with teachers and peers and begin to interact with other people outside of their family.
The brain’s architecture is established during this time, laying the foundation for future learning, behavior and health. This is why UNESCO sees high-quality early childhood education as one of the most important investments a country can make.
Aside from the basic lessons about colors, shapes and how to speak and write, an ECE program should also provide opportunities for children to get their hands dirty and learn through active exploration. These experiences can help them develop the necessary skills and concepts that they need to become successful students in primary school and beyond.
Professional Career
John Eggert served as professor of organ, music theory and composition at Concordia University, Saint Paul from 1978-2011. He earned advanced degrees from the University of Iowa (DMA in Organ Performance and Pedagogy) and Northwestern University (MM in Organ Performance).
A published composer, Dr. Eggert has received several honors and awards for his choral music, including the Composer’s Association of America (CAA) Gold Medal. He has written a number of choral works, including hymn anthems, hymn concertatos, psalm settings, and arrangements of African American spirituals for treble voices.
He has also composed a variety of works for organ, brass quartet, and choir. A commissioned piece for organ, brass quartet and timpani, “The Morning Trumpet,” was published by Brassworks4.
Achievements and Honors
RADM Eggert (or Gus as his friends and family called him) was a proud military officer who served his country for more than 40 years. He was a pilot and served on several naval ships, including the USS Valley Forge (CVA-45).
In addition to flying, he also held numerous other high-profile positions in the Navy. These include Commander of Carrier Air Wing 9 in Vietnam, which produced the first Navy aces of that war.
He received his doctorate in physics in 1991 from Harvard University where he studied pressure-induced insulator-metal transitions. He then branched out to become a professor of physics at Colorado School of Mines in Golden CO and a research scientist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. He was also a longtime supporter of the Army’s Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office where he helped deliver crucial prototypes to Soldiers in support of the army’s modernization mission.
Personal Life
John Eggert was a former public defender and one of the most successful lawyers in Kentucky. He has won more than 20 acquittals in 17 years, and has built a huge practice by charging modest fees and getting great results.
A renowned courtroom bulldog, Eggert has a strong memory for the facts of his cases and for past cases he’s handled. He also has an eye for detail, says Scott Cox, his partner at the law firm of Cox & Eggert.
He played a major role in the popular TV sitcom Baywatch, and has contributed to several other films. He has a net worth of between $500,000 and $1 million.
Net Worth
Despite his brusque demeanor, Eggert is a fearsome trial lawyer. He has a long list of impressive cases, including an acquittal for Orlando Gilmore, who was accused of gunning down Gregory Sawyers on a Smoketown street before Sawyers could testify against him.
He also has an incredibly good memory for the facts of prior trials, as well as of past jurors. Cox said Eggert’s ability to remember the details of a case is one of the reasons he has consistently won acquittal after acquittal.
Regardless of the success he enjoys in the courtroom, Eggert’s career has also been marred by some less-than-pleasant incidents. A few years ago, Commonwealth’s Attorney Tom Wine tried to get him kicked off a case for telling a jailed witness not to testify in his client’s trial.
