John Engquist – A Real Estate Developer and Philanthropist

John Engquist is a real estate developer who has built a sizeable presence in the Baton Rouge area. He is also a dedicated philanthropist.

When not in the city, he loves spending time at his ranch in Clinton, where he and his wife Marty take care of horses and other animals. The spirited filly Bella is their latest addition.

In addition, he is the founder and board president of SwimHershey, a non-profit corporation that is focused on providing aquatics education, access and opportunity for the regional community in Pennsylvania. He is also a USA Swimming coach and official. He and his wife, Emily, live in Hershey with their two children, Caroline (20) and Colin (18).

John is one of Baton Rouge’s top residential real estate developers. He has developed a number of key traditional neighborhoods and is at the helm of three of the city’s most recent projects, Americana in Zachary, Materra in partnership with Woman’s Hospital and Rouzan — an 100-acre TND on the edge of Southdowns.

He’s also served as executive chairman of H&E Equipment Services, the heavy equipment dealership founded by his father that he has grown to be a publicly traded powerhouse. He also owns 75% of Old Towne Development Group, LLC and serves as a director on the boards of several private companies including Mohawk Industries.

He is also a passionate philanthropist. He donates his time to organizations that fight pediatric cancer and is a member of the leadership council at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

Businessman and philanthropist John Engquist has made his mark on Baton Rouge with his company, Head & Engquist Equipment LLC. The company sells cranes and other heavy-duty equipment to construction companies.

In addition to his work, he has a passion for helping pediatric cancer patients through donations and other means. He and his wife, Marty Engquist, have pledged $1.5 million to the hematology and oncology floor of the new freestanding Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital.

In his spare time, he enjoys fishing on a ranch property near Clinton, Louisiana. He also loves spending time with family and friends.
