John Harnish enjoys a challenge, whether it’s doing voiceover work or singing in a barbershop harmony group. With nine years of experience under his belt, he does voice-overs from the comfort of his Pace home studio.

He is a retired Navy flight officer and former choir director, as well as being part of the Pensacola Bay Harmonizers, an all-male barbershop harmony singing group.

Early Life and Education

John Harnish was born on December 31, 1831 in Clarion, Pennsylvania to Martin Harnish and Catherine Parsons.

He obtained his bachelor’s degree from West Chester University and later earned a master’s in education from Millersville University. For several years he taught at Oxford, Donegal and Hempfield schools in Pennsylvania.

Harnish was an ordained United Methodist pastor and served in Western Pennsylvania and Michigan. Additionally, he served on the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry, representing 250 U.S. Methodist colleges, universities and seminaries.

He serves as a trustee for Baltic Methodist Theological Seminary in Estonia and Duke University. On behalf of the General Board, he helped open Africa University in Zimbabwe and attended Kingswood College’s 250th anniversary celebrations in England.

John Harnish, born around 1746, was the eldest son of Jacob and Anna (maiden name unknown). Additionally, he held a 136-acre tract of land granted to his father by Thomas and Richard Penn in 1755.

John left his home in Lampeter to his wife and each child they had together, as well as making a bequest to his daughter-in-law.

His parents owned the land where the home stands today, and it is a small stone house of the type built by early settlers of Lancaster County.

John and Elizabeth Harnish likely lived here during the early years of their marriage. This farm, situated near Mill Creek, has been in the Harnish family ever since.
