Early Life and Education

Early childhood education is a discipline in academia that strives to prepare students for lifelong learning. According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), this education encompasses children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs.

Early learning occurs from birth to approximately eight years old and it’s the most rapid phase of a child’s development. During this period, their brains begin to form and lay the groundwork for what comes next.

Early childhood years are crucial for a child’s self-worth, moral outlook and world view. Children who receive high quality ECE services tend to do better academically and later in life, as well as having lower risks of social-emotional problems.

Professional Career

Kazmierczak earned both a bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University in 2006 and a master’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley, according to Peters. While at NIU he was an “outstanding” student.

Hertz fellows are awarded to graduate students who demonstrate academic excellence, and he had an illustrious career as a veterinarian. He won numerous CJC races with both young and old birds, earning him recognition such as Bulletin All American mention, Induction into the International Hall of Fame, Thoroughbred Ace Pigeon Award and more. Furthermore, his practice in litigation continued to expand while enjoying time with family and watching Boston Red Sox or Patriots games on TV.

The History Department is delighted to present several awards and scholarships to outstanding students and rising senior majors, including the William A. Jenks Award in History established by former students and friends in honor of Kenan Professor of History William A. Jenks who earned his bachelor’s degree from W&L before earning master’s and doctorate degrees from Columbia University.

Investigators are still trying to determine what spurred him on to kill five students and injure seven more.

He was raised in Elk Grove Village, Illinois and spent a year at a psychiatric treatment center after high school. With an established history of mental illness, his behavior had become increasingly erratic in the weeks prior to the shooting.
