Rinella was raised hunting, trapping and fishing in rural western Michigan. His passion for nature had always driven him to pursue hunting as a means of making a living.

He began as a fur trapper, hunting muskrats, beavers and mink to sell their pelts to furriers. However, prices began to fall and Rinella sought other sources of hunting. Today he still hunts but also writes about it and hosts for Sportsman Channel television programs. Additionally, Rinella is an accomplished conservationist who has explored remote corners of Alaska as well as South American waterways on his adventures.

In addition to his remarkable career, rinell has been an integral member of the college community for decades. He’s received numerous awards and recognitions for his service to the arts as well as mental health counseling.

For instance, The Onsite Foundation was created in memory of rinell’s son Ryan who took his own life in 2014; it provides healing retreats and therapy for parents who have experienced the devastating loss of a child to suicide.

Other notable honors include rinell’s students and staff for their remarkable accomplishments. He’s served on several boards, such as Onsite Foundation and Porter’s Call which offers mental health counseling services for artists; furthermore, he was inducted into the College Hall of Fame for his contributions to the institution.
