Liam Society Student of the Year

Liam has appreciated Richards’ small class sizes, which he says have assisted in his studies. He plans on attending college and becoming a firefighter.

Early Life and Education

Liam doesn’t fear public speaking – in fact, he finds it exhilarating! Involved with public speaking has given Liam the confidence he needed to share his ideas and voice them loudly to an audience.

Liam had access to numerous educational opportunities throughout his childhood, providing him with a broad view of the world. This experience provided a foundation of understanding for life.

Liam’s early education would prove immensely valuable as he started his professional life after college graduation. Following this path, he joined the Urban Catholic Teacher Corps (UCTC), which provided teaching support and intentional community living during his master’s studies at Boston College. Furthermore, Liam became a member of Ireland’s Research Engagement Group to foster teachers’ engagement with research – an experience that provided him with an appreciation of supportive communities.

Professional Career

Liam credits his success to hard work in the classroom, taking advantage of on-campus supports, and getting involved with various organizations on campus. His advice for new UHart students would be to “get involved” and immerse themselves into UHart. Liam is committed to the Rosemont community and can often be seen assisting faculty, staff, and students both physically as well as online with his eLearning Coordinator role.

Liam is passionate about STEM outreach and education. He discovered his interest through PJAS and soon started judging projects at ISEF-affiliated Delaware Valley Science Fairs, conducting research into 3D printing optimization as part of his degree in Physics as well as an antineutrino experiment as an antineutrino experiment; interning at both Argonne National Laboratory and Oak Ridge National Lab helped further expand his professional horizons.

Achievement and Honors

At this event, students are honored for their academic achievements, leadership abilities and character traits. Scholars with top academic distinctions such as Carl Wischmeyer Scholar or Paul N. Bogart Scholar will also be recognized at this ceremony.

Liam is an outstanding student at Richards High School with a 4.5 grade point average and top placement in his class. A member of both National Honor Society and club running team, as well as receiving multiple honors such as Panther Pride Award and Math Achievement Award recognitions.

Liam was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in April 2015 and experienced one recurrence. Since becoming an LLS Honored Hero he attends numerous Light The Night events to share his story of strength and perseverance that enabled him to once more beat cancer.

Personal Life

Liam has found that being active in various student organizations at Hofstra Law has provided him with invaluable opportunities to meet new people and build connections outside the law school environment. He particularly enjoys his time spent with the Irish Law Society where upperclassmen have shown him how to create networks in sports and entertainment industries.

Judgeship at both the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) and Delaware Valley Science Fairs (DVSF) has provided him with invaluable experience on how to support STEM research, from 3D printing optimization studies to antineutrino experiments and beyond.

Liam was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in 2015 and underwent chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant to reach remission. Since then he has attended LLS Light the Night events as an advocate and share his story of blood cancer treatment with others.
