Lucas Detor – Managing Principal at AB CarVal Investors

Lucas Detor brings over 10 years of investment experience in both syndicated and individual capital markets to lead AB CarVal’s investments in high yield, transportation and emerging markets.

CarVal Investors, a Minneapolis-based fund established by Cargill several years ago and previously acquired by AllianceBernstein, will now be purchased by AllianceBernstein with all its key management team remaining intact; including managing principals Lucas Detor and James Ganley who will remain with AllianceBernstein.

Early Life and Education

Dorothy Jean Lucas was an icon, her accomplishments the epitome of Renaissance womanhood. After attending LJ Rowan High School she earned both a BA and MA in Reading Education from Jackson State University respectively.

She served on both Impact and Hattiesburg American newspapers as a staff writer, was active in Alpha Kappa Alpha Incorporated sorority, displayed her watercolor art at Hattiesburg Cultural Center and wrote two fiction books Grammie’s Magic Words and Miles Away From My Dad for publication as well as one inspirational work Memories: Royal Street-L.J. Rowan A Cultural Legacy 1950-1970.

Her family have lost an exceptional woman. She will be greatly missed.

Professional Career

Lucas Detor brings over 10 years of investment experience to the industry. He has worked on various syndicated and individual capital markets as well as leading and managing teams of investment professionals. His experience has allowed him to develop strategies which have generated returns for his clients. He currently serves as managing principal at AB CarVal Investors and his duties include overseeing their investment strategy as well as the oversight and management of high yield, transportation and emerging market investments. He is also responsible for capital formation, portfolio management and business development. Prior to this role at Aergo Capital he served as managing director at Morgan Stanley as well as being part of their investment committee. A graduate from SUNY Albany with a degree in accounting he served in both the U.S. Army Reserves and New York State National Guard.

Personal Life

Lucas Detor and Nicole have two children together. He attended Jamesville-Dewitt High School where he earned memberships into both National Honors Society and Spanish Honors Society; additionally he participated in basketball and track teams.

At AB CarVal, Detor serves as managing principal and member of the Investment Committee, leading investment strategy and management for transportation investments as well as capital formation, emerging markets investments and real estate investments for the firm. He previously co-headed Morgan Stanley’s global distressed and U.S. leveraged loan business.
