Matthew McConaughey Hosts a Zoom Call for Seniors in Austin, Texas

Earlier this year, actor and filmmaker Matthew McConaughey took advantage of the coronavirus pandemic to host a virtual bingo session for seniors living in Austin, Texas. This was in conjunction with the just keep livin Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded by actress Camila McConaughey that provides tools for healthy living to more than 3,000 students in 40 programs throughout the state of California and Texas. In addition to providing these students with tools for making healthier choices, the foundation also runs educational programs in high schools in Tennessee and Georgia, where the organization originated.

Aside from his involvement with the just keep livin foundation, McConaughey has also played a role in helping residents in quarantined areas in Texas. This includes a recent appearance on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where he helped to lighten the spirits of residents affected by the coronavirus pandemic. He is also a professor at the University of Texas at Austin, where he is teaching the “Script to Screen” film production class with Scott Rice. In addition, he is currently working on a new show with True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto for FX. In the spirit of spreading a little love and joy, Matthew McConaughey has been spotted on the TODAY app, where he has discussed his presidential aspirations, and given out free copies of the book, “The Best of Luck: A Memoir of Life, Loss, and Recovery”.

The other aforementioned feat was in a different context. It’s unlikely that McConaughey and his family would have been able to join the Zoom call if they lived in the Austin area, but the foundation was able to make it happen for them. By using the Zoom augmented reality technology, the McConaugheys were able to play bingo with older adults in the Texas suburb of Round Rock, and they even shared the video of the experience with their fans.
