New Balance 740

New Balance 740 Tribute to ’82

In celebration of James Worthy’s renown as one of the best college basketball players in history, New Balance has re-released the legendary 740. The new version of the shoe adopts the colors of the University of North Carolina, with a white full-grain leather base and Carolina Blue accents throughout. The tongue tag features the words “Tribute to ’82” (referring to the 1982 championship year in which the Tar Heels won the national championship). Worthy’s college jersey number 52 is also featured on the shoe’s upper.

The first New Balance athlete to have a signature sneaker was James Worthy, and the 740 OG became one of the most iconic sneakers of all time. Featuring a padded ankle collar and full-grain leather upper, this retro model features an EVA midsole and a speed-lace lacing system for an easy, secure fit.

Another retro-inspired sneaker is the New Balance P740 OG “Worthy Express.” It uses the same materials as the original 1985 release, including the full-length high-rebound EVA midsole. It has a full leather upper with perforations along the toe box to enhance ventilation. New Balance branding is found underneath the toe box.
