Melissa McCarthy and David Kelley Talk Wellness at Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers
Earlier this month, we were able to catch up with actress Melissa McCarthy and director David Kelley at the press conference for their new Hulu miniseries, Nine Perfect Strangers. They talked about the movie’s adaptation of the novel, their collaboration on it, and the locations they filmed at. We also asked them about endorsements by Kia, Ivory soap, and Sunrise Brands.
Earlier this month, Nicole Kidman debuted a new project – Nine Perfect Strangers, which is based on a novel by Australian author Liane Moriarty. The show follows nine people at a wellness resort in Northern California, where the emphasis is on health and well-being. Interestingly, it’s not a cynical comedy. Instead, it’s a vacuous meditation on wellness.
It’s also the first of two Nicole Kidman miniseries she’s working on. She’s also producing “Top of the Lake: China Girl”, which is about a tycoon who travels to China to buy a new house.
The book on which Nine Perfect Strangers is based is a New York Times best seller by Moriarty. The novel follows nine strangers who arrive at a wellness retreat. The cast is a diverse mix of actors and actresses. They include Samara Weaving, Michael Shannon, and Luke Evans.
Probably one of the most famous actresses of our time, Melissa McCarthy is a two time Emmy Award winner, as well as an Oscar nominee. She has starred in such films as Ghostbusters and Spy, and has appeared on such popular shows as Mike & Molly, Gilmore Girls, and Bridesmaids. She is married to actor Ben Falcone, and they have two daughters. Their home is in the San Fernando Valley, with four bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms. They also have a pool and spa.
Melissa McCarthy has been in the entertainment business for over 25 years, but she didn’t start making her name until she was 40. She became a celebrity after her roles in Ghostbusters and Mike & Molly. She started out in the Groundlings improv comedy troupe, and then she was hired to play Sookie St. James on Gilmore Girls in 2000. She has been married to Ben Falcone for over a decade. They have two daughters: Vivian and Georgette.
Previously, producers of Nine Perfect Strangers were planning to shoot the limited series in Los Angeles, but the coronavirus pandemic forced them to relocate to Australia. The production took place in several locations, including Sydney, Australia, and Los Angeles, California, but Byron Bay was selected for the filming of Tranquillum House.
Tranquillum House is a fictional health and wellness retreat, where nine dysfunctional guests are promised total transformation in 10 days. Masha (Nicole Kidman) runs the retreat, and her mission is to rejuvenate tired minds and bodies.
Nine Perfect Strangers follows a group of strangers who are brought to Tranquillum House, where they are put through various unique methods to reshape their lives. Some of the guests are suspicious of Masha’s methods, and they argue with her about taking things with them.
