Noah Braham Wants to Be a Legacy Mountaineer
Noah Braham plans on following in his father’s footsteps and becoming a legendary Mountaineer. On Wednesday, University High School standout Braham signed with West Virginia University football coach Neal Brown.
He will play defensive tackle at the next level and is known for being a strong bullrush pass rusher who also excels as 5 technique player.
Early Life and Education
Noah Braham is the son of former West Virginia University football standout Rich Braham, who started as a senior and later enjoyed an 18-season NFL career. Noah was instrumental in helping University High School win its first sectional title since 1999 while giving fourth-seeded Wisconsin an unexpected scare during their NCAA tournament first-round game.
His game can only be described as uncompromisingly pure. Instead of leaning on athleticism for scoring opportunities, he employs quick feet, soft hands and sneaky speed to outwit opponents to the basket and score from close range.
He’s been recognized as South Carolina Player of the Year and working toward earning his teacher certification, but his main responsibility lies with serving as an example to younger members of his family and community.
Professional Career
MORGANTOWN — Any dictionary definition of the term “legacy Mountaineer” should include Noah Braham as an illustrative image. He follows in the footsteps of his father Rich Braham, who signed for football at West Virginia University during its early 90s signing class and went on to play 13 seasons as a pro linebacker in the NFL.
Senior first baseman and 2023 Lowery Award recipient Alex Carpin led his Hawks team to sectional and regional victories while hitting an amazing.400 average with 10 RBI and 11 runs scored across eight playoff games.
WVU coach Neal Brown saw Braham’s play and made signing in-state players a priority during his time in Morgantown. Brown signed Braham alongside defensive lineman Corey McIntyre Jr. and linebacker Josiah Trotter – two other legacy Mountaineers.
Achievement and Honors
University senior Noah Braham earned the OVAC Player of the Year honor for leading his team in batting average, home runs and RBIs – as well as being named a finalist for West Virginia’s state baseball player of the year award, known as Lowery Award.
He played a crucial role in UHS making its first regional and state tournament appearances since 1999, batting at an astounding.529 average with 64 hits across eight playoff games; including 15 doubles and 13 homers!
Today, Rich Braham Jr. committed to West Virginia University and became a Mountaineer football player – following in his father’s footsteps as an offensive tackle at West Virginia and later playing 13 seasons with Cincinnati Bengals before retiring in 2004. His son will continue the legacy.
Personal Life
Noah Braham is familiar to West Virginia University football alum Rich Braham, a WVU Football Hall-of-Famer who started 37 games at University High before leaving to become an NFL pro player himself. Now, Noah hopes to follow in his father’s footsteps as an offensive lineman on campus and in the NFL.
Braham knows he faces a formidable task at Morgantown High School, yet is unfazed by its magnitude. Already he has made an impressionful first impression by attending one-day camps and participating in 7-on-7 competitions.
This summer, he’s also attending West Virginia University football workouts with hopes of receiving some practice at tight end or playing in one or more games; for now though, his focus lies with helping the Hawks reach the state tournament for the first time since 1997.
