Taiwanese Supermarkets

Taiwan’s supermarkets are dominated by international companies, with few domestic players in the market. With a relatively high population density and high disposable incomes, international companies are increasingly taking advantage of Taiwan’s food market. While traditional mom and pop shops are still in business, the market for these products is in decline.

Despite the recent pandemic, Taiwan’s food and beverage industry is expected to top US$41.5 billion in 2020, a slight increase over the previous year. Convenience stores such as 7-11, Family Mart, and PX Mart continue to grow and are expected to regain their pre-pandemic levels. While most of these stores are in suburban areas, new, smaller hypermarkets have also begun to emerge in urban areas.
