Pepa Denton and Her Son Tyran

Since we last saw Pepa on Growing Up Hip Hop, she’s had quite an eventful journey. Tyran visited her recently and was upset when she promptly went out on a date without consulting him first.

Pepa Azor, daughter of Sandra Denton and rapper Hurby Azor, is one of the leading hip-hop figures. With decades of experience under her belt and as an inspiration to many.

Early Life and Education

Sandra Jacqueline Denton, commonly referred to as Pepa or simply Pepa, is best known as one-third of Salt-N-Pepa hip hop trio. Over their four albums released and various TV appearances (such as Joe’s Apartment episode and reality show called The Salt-N-Pepa Show), as well as Pep’s autobiography Let’s Talk About Pep, these women have remained synonymous with one another in popularity.

Pepa and Tyran Moore share one son. Born in 1990 and now 32, Tyran Moore can be seen on Growing Up Hip Hop; Egypt Criss also appears as part of his cast on Growing Up Hip Hop. Tyran also works as a cloth designer and Wing Chun Science instructor, having shown great interest in martial arts since early childhood.

Professional Career

Pepa has made numerous television and film appearances, such as Joe’s Apartment and First Time Felon on HBO, Oz TV drama series and TBS sitcom Are We There Yet. She published her autobiography Let’s Talk About Pep in 2008.

This album proved a moderate success, placing them firmly on the NYC hip hop map and giving rise to one of their signature tracks, “Push It.”

Pepe chose Portuguese citizenship over youth Brazil when he acquired citizenship in 2007, opting instead to join their national team after participating in four FIFA World Cup tournaments and several UEFA European Championships for Portugal. Furthermore, he earned 134 caps with club Maritimo winning three Primeira Liga and two Taca de Portugal titles during that time.

Personal Life

Denton gave birth to Tyron while dating rapper Barry Riddick (later to become part of hip-hop group Naughty by Nature). Their relationship was marked by extreme volatility; Pepa has openly discussed experiencing physical abuse from him during that time.

Tyran is perhaps best-known for his appearance on the reality series Growing Up Hip Hop and as an entrepreneur and Wing Chun science instructor. Additionally, his mother gave him half sister Egypt Criss as well as being heavily involved with entertainment industry activities as a family unit.

Pepa’s son often visits her on the series and is in conflict with his father. On one episode of the series, however, he visited Pepa to mend their bond – however his visit went sour when she refused him time together.

In addition, she owns her clothing line called Egypt’s and engages in business ventures; reality TV shows feature her life, she writes a memoir book called Push It which continues to generate substantial royalties for Pepa.

Pepa gave birth to Tyran Moore in 1990. His half-sister Egypt Jahnari Criss is a TV personality and entrepreneur as well as being a Wing Chun Science instructor; Tyran’s father Barry Riddick passed away in 2022; Tyran is now an apparel designer and owns his own franchise of WCS.
