Ricky Johns

Richard Johns is an award-winning producer and executive, best known for his 2000 Academy Award-nominated indie horror film Shadow of a Vampire as well as other projects.

He is also the founder of Argo Films, which will house scripted assets and development projects from his production companies Corona Pictures and Corona Television.

Early Life and Education

Ricky Johns was born in England and attended Harvard University, earning both a bachelor’s degree in social studies (magna cum laude) and master’s degree in history. Additionally, he earned his doctoral degree with specialization in the history of American civilization.

He is a carpenter by trade and the proud father of two children.

He is currently the executive director of Friends of Orphans in Northern Uganda, which provides support and services to former LRA child soldiers. Furthermore, he serves on numerous boards both philanthropic and cultural organizations.

Professional Career

Before joining Utah in 2007, Ricky Johns served two seasons as an assistant coach at Monroe College. During this time, the Utes made multiple NCAA Tournament appearances under his guidance and were part of a coaching staff which produced three MAAC All-Conference players.

He was also the head coach of the Jamaican National Team, leading them to victory in the CBC Championship and seventh place overall at Centrobasket tournaments held in Panama City.

Ricky Johns had an exceptional athletic ability and an infectious work ethic. His interest in science and medicine developed early on; he loved tinkering with motors, phonographs, and homemade radio receivers.

Johns advanced research in hearing, speech, cardiovascular control and myocardial mechanics to develop better instruments and tools for treating various medical conditions. Furthermore, he formed close research collaborations with the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory that included developing argon lasers for retinal surgery.

For much of his career, Isaiah Ross has also coached professional athletes. His extensive expertise in basketball coaching includes serving as head coach of the International Basketball Academy and assistant coach to Monroe’s men’s basketball team. Through these endeavors, Isaiah helped mold several players including Isaiah Ross, Tajuan Agee and E.J Crawford – now college players themselves!

Ricky Johns is a former carpenter who won over both X Factor judges and viewers at home when he appeared on the show. Additionally, his passion for music is evident.

He was raised listening to Marvin Gaye and has always had a special affinity for older R&B and hip hop stars like Usher, Mob Deep and Biggie. Recently he’s even returned to listening to classic soul and blues recordings.

He and Amy moved to Brooklyn Heights, New York, with their children in tow. There they have many friends in the area and feel contented living there together.
