Early Life and Education

Steve Borg brings over three decades of marketing, banking and community development expertise. His extensive background includes leading strategic programs for non-profits across strategic governance, communications and fundraising initiatives as well as Capitol Hill experience as legislative aide for Congressman Timothy V. Johnson.

As part of his work on Capitol Hill, he was responsible for crafting congressional strategy and messaging. Additionally, he has extensive experience drafting legislation and managing policy portfolios in Appropriations, Healthcare, Education, Science, Foreign Affairs and Budget matters.

In 2004, Klabb Kotba Malta created and presented Etnika: In Search of a Lost Voice at various film festivals. Two years later he edited Ruben Zahra’s A Guide to Maltese Folk Music before publishing Il-Mohba: an ethnographic publication which compiles oral testimonies collected over 14 years of research.

Borg previously held positions on Capitol Hill as legislative director, assistant chief of staff and research director. His expertise encompassed Appropriations issues as well as Agriculture, Healthcare costs, Taxes and Foreign Affairs policy matters.

Aqualogic Laundry Systems, an Australian owned company offering laundry equipment and services, specialises in serving government health facilities, hospitality industries and correctional facilities in NSW. He brings with him vast experience working alongside industry professionals.

Achievement and Honors

Steve Borg is widely respected for his advocacy on behalf of Malta’s natural environment and built heritage as well as his research of Maltese folk melodies. Additionally, he produces Maltese language albums and was the subject of documentary film Etnika: In Search of a Lost Voice which won Malta Music Award for Cultural Achievement. Additionally, his work can be found featured on a 20c stamp featuring traditional Maltese folk instruments issued by Maltapost.

He was honored as part of Symetra Heroes in the Classroom program, which recognizes teachers for educational excellence. At Fair Oaks School during a surprise assembly he received both a $1,000 donation to his classroom as well as tickets to attend a 49ers home game at Levi’s Stadium.

Personal Life

Borg has earned widespread respect and appreciation for his activism and advocacy work in areas including illegal immigration, environmental conservation and our built heritage preservation, creativity in arts and crafts promotion and combatting illiteracy. Additionally, his strong anti-climate change stance and interest in Maltese language studies is well known.

Athena Galea is the founder of Etnika, Malta’s foremost modern folk music group. Along with composer Dominic Galea he produced their inaugural album. She is responsible for brokering an endowment of old instruments to the National Archives of Malta as well as recovering other folk music materials.

He is the author of numerous ethnographic publications, and his book on Maltese sung poetry (ejmilhom, Drawwiethom and Grajjiethom: L-ewwel volum published by Klabbb Kotba Maltin in November 2017) won him the Book of the Year Award.
