Who is Steve Rockwood?

Steve Rockwood is President and CEO of FamilySearch International. A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Steve has held various Church callings including being an elders quorum president and bishop.

He takes great pleasure in how his staff, both online and in person, helps people discover their ancestry – which makes Rootstech such an unforgettable experience.

Early Life and Education

Rockwood spent his formative years in Eaton Rapids, Michigan where he and his siblings would spend weekends playing Little League, attending school and church services, riding bikes and socializing with their peers. These experiences shaped his path to become CEO of FamilySearch International–the global genealogy website for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

As COVID-19 cases decreased and national conversations about race in schools changed, parents began criticizing their district’s classrooms. Parent moderators on Facebook groups sent emails to administrators complaining about tweets from Diversity Director Brittany Hogan or books chosen as reading material in classes.

Some parents argued Hogan had a conflict of interest due to her husband working for a construction company overseeing Rockwood projects. Other parents expressed displeasure with Harris serving on its board while contracting with non-profit L.O.V.E Project without first competitive bidding.

Professional Career

Steve Rockwood is the President and CEO of FamilySearch International. He specializes in offering customized service offerings for global customers including MasterCard International, AT&T, Disney and Office Depot among many others. In addition, two companies he founded were acquired by larger organizations.

He brings more than four decades of Class 1 and Short Line railroad experience, most notably at executive-level levels. Furthermore, he was an instructor in the American Railway Association’s Short Line Safety Training Program.

He has an insatiable passion for music and has played bass guitar in multiple bands over the years. Additionally, he toured with Maria Muldaur of legendary singer-songwriter Maria Muldaur fame. Now living outside Denver Colorado with his wife and four children – including one grandchild! – they remain active members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Achievement and Honors

As a surgeon, he taught hundreds of orthopaedic residents and co-authored three major textbooks that are still used today. Additionally, he was known as an expert shoulder surgery specialist and mentored fellows both domestically and overseas.

He was also the founding member and president of various national orthopaedic societies that focused on education and research, including inducting him into Oklahoma Hall of Fame.

Christian was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many Church callings such as full-time missionary in Argentina Cordoba Mission, elders quorum president, bishop, stake young men president and seminary teacher. Chris survives along with their three children and grandchildren along with several sisters as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Personal Life

Steve Rockwood hails from Eaton Rapids, Michigan. While growing up playing Little League baseball and marching band with friends in Eaton Rapids he enjoyed riding bikes along the Frio River as well as camping out with two dogs named Fritz and Fleck.

He was an esteemed orthopaedic surgeon who pioneered groundbreaking shoulder arthroplasty systems and co-authored several major orthopedic textbooks still used today. Additionally, he lectured worldwide about shoulder surgery while founding and serving as president of several national orthopaedic societies.

Current CEO of FamilySearch International and managing director in the Church’s Family History Department. He and his wife Kathy live in Evanston, Illinois with nine children and many grandchildren between them. Hobbies of his include golfing, traveling and camping as well as volunteering his services at his church or other organizations.

Net Worth

Rockwood’s estimated net worth is approximately $20 Million. Her primary source of income comes from television acting; she is best known for her roles on Push Girls and The Fast and the Furious as well as being a spokesperson for Ti-Lite wheelchairs and modeling for clients such as Nordstrom and Maybelline.

RootsTech 2023 opened with two keynote addresses by Steve Rockwood, the Chief Executive Officer of FamilySearch (a service provided by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints), which focused on unifying families. One address was delivered virtually for the online portion and another at Salt Palace Theatre during in-person events. He has made 24 transactions in CoreSite Realty stock since 30 July 2021.
