Early Life and Education
Steven Edward Schlegel was an advocate for his family, friends and coworkers. His interests included going to the gym, Hawaiian shirts and D&D games – passions which all those who knew him loved him for.
In 1998, Schlegel’s daughter Anne passed away due to Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. To honor both her memory and her passion for swimming, he took part in Swim Across America – a charity event that raises money for cancer research at RUSH University Cancer Center.
Schlegel is currently developing his craft as an emerging creator. His favorite aspect of creating is seeing something come from nothing and become reality – as well as seeing others interact with his creations! His goal is to become an established designer at either an agency or establish his own studio for work purposes.
Professional Career
He was recognized for his exceptional skills at managing complex property and casualty disputes, multistate mass and class action litigation and trust and estate matters. Additionally, his specialization included high-stakes commercial litigation cases.
Schlegel was an outstanding motorcycle dealer in Toledo for many years before his death, operating multiple dealerships as well as founding Delta Raceway and Lima Half-Mile race. Additionally, he co-founded Loretta Lynn’s Hurricane Mills Motocross Races that ran annually from 1982 until his own passing as well as being an off-road racing pioneer.
His friends remember him as being kind and generous, boasting household names from television, Hollywood, and Broadway as clients. While at Wheeling Jesuit, Steve Schlegel earned All-GSAC team member recognition on two separate occasions and played on their national championship-winning squad. Additionally, he received All-American status as a freshman and was recognized with inclusion on the NE-10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
He was an enthusiastic swimmer who frequently competed in long distance swim meets.
