Steve Showalter

New Mets Manager Steve Showalter

After the Mets released Luis Rojas, their top priority became finding a manager – Showalter, Quatraro, and Espada were reportedly interviewed as potential candidates for this position.

He boasts an extensive resume, most notably as director of the critically acclaimed HBO drama Boardwalk Empire from 2010-14, depicting Atlantic City gangsters during Prohibition under Martin Scorsese’s direction.

Early Life and Education

Showalter began playing basketball as a teenager in Germantown, a suburb northwest of Minneapolis. While at Germantown High School he earned three state championships and led them to six straight state tournaments appearances. Showalter later went on to join the New York Yankees minor league team as both player and coach before retiring due to age limitations.

Showalter earned his respect from players and coaches nationwide during his college playing career with Wisconsin Badgers. He helped lead them to four straight Sweet 16 appearances while becoming one of their key contributors.

Outside the game, he was an avid fisherman and gun enthusiast. He particularly enjoyed hunting trips to Mexico. Additionally, he was an ardent Steelers supporter, an animal lover, and master cultivator of his lawn.

Professional Career

Showalter never batted in the majors but has filled out thousands of lineup cards as manager over 13 seasons since beginning with the rebuilding Yankees in 1992; his efforts won him great acclaim when leading them to a winning record in spite of being limited by player strike interruption.

He then managed the Arizona Diamondbacks during their inaugural year before going on to manage Texas Rangers and Baltimore Orioles for longer stints before finally taking over with the Mets in 2017. Over his tenure he won three AL Manager of the Year awards.

His experience and steady hand no doubt appealed to new Mets general manager Billy Eppler and owner Steve Cohen, who have spent lavishly since purchasing their franchise in 2020. As a frontrunner in their interview process — also including Astros bench coach Joe Espada and Tampa Bay Rays bench coach Matt Quattraro — they were considered frontrunners for the job.

Achievement and Honors

Showalter has earned acclaim for turning struggling teams into postseason contenders, yet has never managed to bring home a championship win himself. After leaving both the Yankees and Diamondbacks just short of championship glory, his next stop will likely be with the Mets who hope he can help lead them towards glory.

He’s also an accomplished actor, appearing in Living in Oblivion (1995) and Fargo by the Coen brothers (cult classic) amongst numerous films and TV shows.

He was also a highly successful high school coach, leading Germantown to three state titles and four consecutive appearances at state tournaments. Additionally, he currently coaches Dominican’s boys basketball team to an 11-4 record this year and will be greatly missed by both his coaching staff and community alike.

Personal Life

Showalter has become known for his acting and directing abilities outside the classroom. In 2010,-14 he appeared as Nucky Thompson on Boardwalk Empire (2010-14), an HBO drama produced and executive produced by Martin Scorsese and featuring Steve Buscemi who won an Emmy Award.

The Mets are hopeful that Showalter can steer them away from another disastrous season like 2021. They spent big in free agency, while general manager Billy Eppler is working toward building an adequate roster.

Net Worth

Showalter’s hiring caused waves of surprise throughout his district, which is notorious for recruiting coaches from other schools without going through an interview process first, showing their respect for him as an individual and coach. But Dominican took steps to interview Showalter thoroughly prior to handing him control of its Falls program – an indicator of its commitment and admiration for him as a coach.

Imani Showalter first made waves as an appearance on the first season of Basketball Wives, featuring wives of NBA players. Additionally, she is a singer and was part of a New York girl group signed by US record executive Shakir Stewart.

Stephen Jackson claimed in a 2020 Instagram video that Imani Showalter left their wedding because she refused to sign a prenuptial agreement; Imani refuted these allegations by posting pictures showing that both she and Stephen signed their prenup.
