Proving People Wrong – Steven DeNapoli

Steven DeNapoli enjoys challenging assumptions. That drive was essential in becoming a standout short-stick defensive midfielder at Hofstra University and an MLL champion with the Boston Cannons.

As captain of Atlas LC in the new Premier Lacrosse League, he channels that same passion into his professional life as an Atlas native and 13th overall draft pick in 2020 PLL Expansion Draft.

Early Life and Education

Steven DeNapoli hails from the Five Towns area of New York where his family owned and operated a women’s clothing business. After earning his master’s degree in management and health administration at University of Scranton, Steven held executive positions at community hospitals, integrative medicine clinics and physician group practices; speaking and writing on global health issues as well as health care management and community wellbeing.

Elwood-John H. Glenn High School awarded him three letters while playing on Long Island Dodgers travel team and MAAC All-Academic Teams twice during his lacrosse career.

Professional Career

Steve DeNapoli made his mark in Major League Lacrosse as part of the Long Island Lizards team that won a championship, three times All-CAA selection at Hofstra University and Team USA’s gold medal-winning squad in 2018.

DeNapoli is renowned for his ability to get between the lines and clear out his zone quickly, while his ground ball skills make him an intimidating presence during transition play.

DeNapoli addressed his teammates after leading the Waterdogs to victory in 2022 Premier Lacrosse League championship and noted that he had considered retirement every season of his professional career – until an opportunity arose with Atlas LC to join an emerging league and prove he still had something worthwhile to offer. So he signed for one more season to demonstrate he still had something left in him.

Personal Life

DeNapoli has made it his goal to disprove his critics on and off of the field. His athletic prowess led him to success as a short-stick defensive middie in college lacrosse at Hofstra University; here he earned an All-Rookie team selection as a freshman while being honored as team captain throughout his four seasons of eligibility.

As an active lacrosse player in Major League Lacrosse (MLL), he competed for the New York Lizards, Rattlers and Bayhawks before moving on to coach Long Island Dodgers youth lacrosse program.

He resides in Helwett, NY with his wife and three children, where he serves as both sports coach and an accomplished painter.
