Steven Wellbrock, 39, of Elizabeth City, Passed Away Today

Steven Wellbrock, 39, from Elizabeth City was charged with driving while license revoked, display of false tags on vehicle, driving without operator insurance and possessing drug paraphernalia by Agent Lamont Butts and was held at Albemarle District Jail under a $4,500 secured bond.

At Own It Ventures in Hackettstown, N.J., she took the risk-taking leap and started networking businesswomen together into high-visibility networks to promote their companies.

Early Life and Education

He was born and raised in New Jersey, initially Springfield then Summit. During summers at his lake house in Sparta NJ. He enjoyed Halloween, Killkenny beer and wearing ridiculous hats – all great sources of fun!

Wells was also a contributor for The Guardian, FourFourTwo, 90 Minutes and The Quietus music website as well as performing as a ranting poet under both Seething Wells and Susan Williams names. Wells was known to support Leeds art-punk bands such as Redskins and Delta 5 as well as those that combined thrash, hardcore and heavy metal sounds into one soundscape.

John graduated with a BA in Philosophy from Baylor University in 1990 and later earned a Master of Divinity summa cum laude in 1997 from Baylor’s George W. Truett Theological Seminary. Additionally, John was an active member of South Main Baptist Church in Lubbock.

Professional Career

He held several executive roles at American Standard, Inc. including Tax & Internal Audit Staff and Corporate & International Tax Manager. Additionally, he served on Somerset County Economic Development Committee and Green Brook Town Zoning Board volunteer committees.

He was an enthusiastic train collector and beach bum, owning season passes to multiple NJ beaches. A fan of nonfiction books – never throwing any away! And avid supporter of both New Jersey Devils and Manhattan Knicks basketball teams.

Matt has an impressive set of skills he has refined over time, and his fans love listening to him discuss the game. Since 2002 he has been known as the voice of the Tigers; taking over for Steve Webster who retired.

Achievement and Honors

Wellbrock made his mark at Bainbridge by being honored with first team all-Metro status and pitching a no-hitter with an ERA under 2.

Wellbrock made an outstanding debut at the 2018 World Championships, placing third in his signature 1500 free event behind champion Gregorio Paltrinieri and silver medalist Romanchuk, all three swimmers finishing under 14:37.

Wellbrock wanted to become the eighth Voice of the Tigers at Fort Hays State, hoping he could live up to the legacy left behind by four Hall-of-Famer broadcasters at FHSU. He loves his job and considers it an honor to work alongside such amazing individuals over time; proud to continue the traditions which have made his position so storied in Hays.

Personal Life

Wellbrock currently lives in Hays and is a proud FHSU alumni. She is married with three children; six of her grandchildren call her home; she loved her family unconditionally and always put them first.

Destiny and talent combined to bring her into the role as Voice of the Tigers in 2002. She had worked closely with previous sportscaster and quickly proved herself capable of taking over his duties.

She loves this role because it allows her to bring the excitement of game day and its atmosphere through storytelling, commentary, and play-by-play to those unable to attend in person. Additionally, she co-founded Own It Ventures of Hackettstown New Jersey which brings women together at high-visibility networking events to launch business startups.
