Thomas Pack – A Profile of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Thomas Pack has dedicated much of his career to advocating for diversity, equity and inclusion. Currently he sits on the board of Twin Cities Diversity in Practice.

Early Life and Education

Thomas Pack was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to an affluent family and attended local Quaker schools for schooling. Additionally, his mother managed a restaurant where Thomas began to help out as soon as he could join in the kitchen operations, learning teamwork in this environment.

At sixteen, Pack’s father began preparing him for stately affairs by sending him to London’s premier grammar school and subcontracting him out to Lord Chancellor and Archbishop of Canterbury John Morton at Lambeth Palace.

Morton was charmed by More’s ability to interject humor during theatre performances that would cause audiences to laugh louder than the players themselves. Morton saw first-hand how this apprenticeship had an enduring effect on young Pack, molding him into an articulate orator capable of crafting strong arguments.

Professional Career

Thomas Pack is a partner at Greenberg Traurig law firm in Minneapolis and his practice centers on pharmaceutical and medical device products liability litigation as well as complex business litigation. Additionally, Thomas serves on the Twin Cities Diversity in Practice board which seeks to promote diversity and inclusion within legal communities in Minnesota. As an environmental studies graduate he credits Eckerd with imparting skills he now uses professionally such as project management, communication and farming – something which has enabled him to build his professional life successfully. Several Eckerd students have interned at his North Carolina Gaia Herbs farm where he cultivates herbs for supplements produced under contract from various pharmaceutical manufacturers.

Achievement and Honors

Thomas Pack’s college career was marked by numerous accomplishments. He earned membership into both the National Honor Society and College Board AP Scholar with Distinction distinctions, scoring high in coursework such as dual credit philosophy, Advanced Journalism, and Calculus AB courses.

He currently sits on the Board of Twin Cities Diversity in Practice and various community organizations. Additionally, he performs pro bono work in civil rights and immigration law relating to asylum seekers experiencing persecution based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

At one time he received multiple honors, such as being named one of Minnesota’s 20 Outstanding Young Professionals by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal in 2016. This distinction recognizes local leaders based on “professional accomplishments and demonstrated commitment to giving back to their community”. One example would include his work at St. Thomas with Tommie Shelf food program serving student on campus.

Personal Life

Thomas Pack is an engaged member of his community who devotes much of his time and efforts to volunteer organizations. He serves as Board Chairman for Twin Cities Diversity in Practice – a non-profit association which brings law firms and corporations together in support of diversity, equity and inclusion – which supports organizations such as Twin Cities Diversity in Practice.

He has also been an integral part of Manifold Productions, the film and television production company he established in 1977. At Manifold he has contributed writing, directing, producing several documentaries as well as feature films.

He is survived by his wife Cathy; three sons – Adam, Ryan, and Thomas Pack III; daughter Stephanie Pack; two canine companions; nieces and nephews as well as being laid to rest at Mountain View Memorial Park in Black Mountain, North Carolina.
