Carter Oosterhouse moved to Los Angeles immediately following graduation to pursue a career in film and television. After interning for Project Greenlight, Carter auditioned for Trading Spaces on TLC before becoming part of its cast for its fourth season.
He hosts two HGTV network shows – Carter Can and Million Dollar Rooms. Additionally, he is married to actress Amy Smart and they share Flora Oosterhouse as their daughter.
Early Life and Education
Carter Oosterhouse was born September 19 in Traverse City, Michigan and quickly gained popularity through his appearances on TLC’s Trading Spaces show. Since then he has hosted multiple home improvement and how-to shows.
Ed was educated at Grand Traverse Area Catholic schools before going on to earn a degree in nutrition and communication from Central Michigan University. Following graduation, he relocated to Los Angeles with the intent of pursuing his career dream in film and television; initially as an assistant and tape coordinator on Project Greenlight before auditioning for Trading Spaces’ fourth season audition and landing a role.

After graduating college, Oosterhouse relocated to Los Angeles in order to pursue his dreams of film and television production. He began by working as a production assistant and tape coordinator on TLC’s Project Greenlight before being selected as part of Trading Spaces fourth season cast – later appearing on both Family Edition and Boys Vs Girls as well.
In 2005, he contributed to NBC’s Three Wishes show as a contributor and expert, appearing as such on other programs including Rachael Ray, The Today Show, CBS Early Show, Oprah Winfrey Show and The View. Since 2007, Carter Can on HGTV and The Inside Job on DIY Network have both launched featuring him.
